I would like to wish all those celebrating Thanksgiving this week, a safe and happy time with family and friends. Thanksgiving can come with some trepidation for those eating out and getting together with others. Be like me, stick to the things that you know work for you. Indulge a little if you feel comfortable. The bloat and fullness is common at Thanksgiving even for those not dealing with IBS. Enjoy the time with others. This week we launched a new video series in partnership with Tuesday Night IBS. It's called Talking To Your Doctor About IBS. There are 8 videos in the series. We understand that talking to your doctor about IBS is uncomfortable, because we are pati…

I attended the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) scientific meeting last month. Several items caught my attention Rimegepant is already FDA-approved for acute treatment of migraine and preventive treatment of episodic migraine in adults. A small study presented at ACG suggested that this could represent a new class of treatment for abdominal (visceral) pain. Rimegepant did not cause constipation. The investigator aims to study this further in a larger trial for patients with IBS-C. Walking may be an effective, accessible, and low-cost intervention for managing symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, which was illustrated in a new systematic review. The investigator…

I hope everyone is settling back into their fall routines and spring for those down under. I would like to thank all of the people who reached out to me personally after the Summer update to make sure I was managing okay. I am and it was greatly appreciated. As I wrote on our Facebook group, my gut was a bit off through July and August while I struggled with what I thought was severe constipation and looser stool which was getting past the constipation. It turned out to be a flare of my Crohn's disease which happens to be in my descending colon and rectum area. The presentation was the same as constipation and I did scratch my head as to what was going on. Once I realized…

Please forgive the silence. I've had a big life tragedy related to my family and it has taken me longer than expected to get back up to speed. As the dust is settling, I found myself a kind of tired that demanded a long rest. Here we are mid-summer. My gut has taken a lot of the grief and hasn't been kind. I stayed the course on my own treatment plan and it has slowly returned to the usual. There's probably a good lesson here that what's worked for me still works and I had to give it more time; however, my primary care physician was aware of it and ready to send a note to my gastroenterologist if things changed too great for me to manage. Behind the scenes I've …

The platform which we use for our Community forums has a new major update that will slightly change the look and feel of the forums. Much of the change is to do with better flow and a more modern look and feel. We've started to mock up the community using the new software. This picture is a taste of what the community will look like. We're hoping to make the change by mid-August.

I have been living with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) for over 25 years. In 2019, I founded World IBS Day—observed annually on April 19—after recognizing a continued lack of patient-centered awareness during the month of April. World IBS Day was created for patients. It is a day to elevate the voices of those living with IBS, and also an opportunity for healthcare providers and organizations to demonstrate their support for the IBS community. This is our day—and it matters. World IBS Day events have already begun. From illuminating Niagara Falls in Canada and the US on April 3, to online IBS Warrior summits. Boston will be lit up on April 17th, Milwaukee on April 18…
