Diarrhea predominant IBS (IBS-D)

Diarrhea predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) is a subtype of IBS in which a person experiences frequent episodes of diarrhea with accompanying abdominal pain. Post-Infectious IBS (PI-IBS) is IBS following a digestive illness like food poisoning or gastroenteritis. This is also a forum for increased intestinal permeability, Incontinence or Odor. Some refer to odor as fecal body odor (FBO) or simply rectal odor.

IBS became a life-long companion for me in 1957 shortly after having my gall bladder removed. It took quite a while for me to realize this diarrhea was not going away. After seeing my doctor I began to use Lomotil, bella donna, and several other things. It became a psychological problem also since I never knew when the diarrhea would attack with such urgency. So if I needed to go somewhere by car (bus was unthinkable) I would become so stressed out that I probably brought on a bout of diarrhea just by worrying. I eventually went to see a psychologist. On my first visit, not being familiar with the office building or where restrooms might be located, I drove around t…

I have had IBS D for a very long time and tried most everything. I read a study done in Europe testing very positively the use of Zofran to help IBS D. I showed it to my physician and we thoroughly discussed. She prescribed 4mg of Zofran (there is a generic too) and I saw immediate results. It is primarily used for managing nausea. Firmer and less frequent bowel movements. Big difference in my associated anxiety level. If you have the same issue, I’d encourage you to google the study and talk to your physician. Life changer.

I've been dealing with IBS D for a couple of years now. I finally went to a gastroenterologist about a month ago and she recommended a daily fiber supplement and that I take a probiotic for two weeks. The next day after taking the probiotic, I had a bad episode of diarrhea. I blamed it on the probiotic, but I also take over the counter medicine for acid reflux, so it could have been the combination. I've since been afraid to even take the daily fiber supplement for fear of another episode at work. I haven't been back to the gastroenterologist yet. I'm so confused about what helps and what doesn't. My biggest concern right now is my son is getting married in Mexico next mo…

Hi, I'm new to this whole online forum thing, but figured I'd give it a shot. I've suffered from intestinal problems for years. Started with a gluten intolerance about seven years ago and now has grown into an uncontrollable monster inside me: constant gas and bloating, going to the bathroom at least 4 times a day, sometimes up to 7, fatigued and exhaustion especially when the symptoms are debilitating, and now it's becoming harder for me to even go to the bathroom and impossible to pass gas without aggressively rubbing my abdomen. I've tried everything, and now I'm starting Xifaxan because I'm desperate. I've tried the FODMAP diet, I stay away from gluten and dairy,…

I’ll start by saying I can not remember the last time (aside from when I fasted) that I had a nice healthy log shaped stool. I have stomach aches scattered throughout the day, which causes panicked trips to bathrooms several times a day. Usually these trips then involve me sitting painfully on toilet and not much coming out. And if it does, it is very loose and small chunks yet hard to push out (you’d think hard dense stool would be hard to push out but for me it’s loose yet still hard to come out). I never feel fully satisfied after a bathroom trip. However, this week, I tried a 24 hour fast to reboot my system. Deep into the fast I went to the bathroom a…

To start with, I'm not affiliated with any pharmaceutical or supplement company, and I'm not getting money from anyone to write this. I've had (self-diagnosed) IBS for more than 3 years, with 5-7 bowel movements per day, mostly diarrhea, with added bloating and gas. Usually the first bowel movement of the day would be relatively normal, and the subsequent ones would get more and more watery, with lots of mucus and undigested food particles floating around. It got so bad that I was afraid to take nature walks where there wouldn't be a bathroom nearby. Hiking was completely out of the question. I felt like my life was becoming smaller and smaller, and I almost felt like a s…

Hello, i'm french so sorry if it's not perfect english. I'm 24 years old and i live in France. I have been suffering from digestive problem for 10 years. How does it started? Overnight: one sunday before school and it never stop. What are my digestive symptoms? Odorant and frequent fluid diarrhea, many irritation which end with blood, gas and thanks to your website, i can finaly put a name on it: leaky gas. It's like you have gas without knowing it yourself. You don't necessary smell anything (expect people around you) and you feel like some thing hot at your anus part. If i contain myself (without feeling anything particular) and release…

I've had IBSD for years but it has gotten worse. No appetite and if I do it gets worse, can't wear my jeans (opening button and zipper help a tin boy but so bloated they cut into me), abdominal pain that sometimes I can't function. My Dr also said that I have "indications of anaphylactic action to food. Unknown food". He suggested FODMAP diet vs meds which I'm happy about. I started it last night and have done well today. But of course my abdomen is still hurting A LOT! I also have diverticuli "so small that you shouldn't have a problem with them". Have had MRI and ultrasound for pain in area of diverticuli. All came back good. I have found MANY lists on Google and all di…

Hello all, Haven't visited here in months - mainly because I thought I was over IBS. SO, I ate whatever I wanted, drank lots of coffee, and simply did not take good care of myself. Fast forward: A stressful weekend, and my enemy is back in full force! I am feeling alone and just wanted to connect. As many of you know, most who do not suffer IBS just don't get it, even if they try. I am trying to be positive, but feel pretty awful. I have diarrhea, lower stomach pain, and zero appetite. I am going back on the FODMAP as well as I can, have started my pro-biotics, and am taking my hyoskyamine for intestinal spasms. I am also doing a guided meditation …

Hi, We’re struggling for months with our 9 year old son who has cramps and diarhea. Hospital has tested faeces(parasites etc.), blood(ellergy) and found nothing so their conclusion is now: IBS. Advice: start with self meditation. Meanwhile he has diarhea for many weeks in a row – 4-5 day and a few times during the night(!!) and his faeces is really yellow. We still have doubts if there isn’t some parasite which has not been tested so we will keep looking for more information. At this stage I have 2 questions: 1. We read somewhere that IBS patients don’t have diarhea during the night. Is this correct ? 2. In The Netherlands(where we live…

I recently visited my GI doctor to ask for a bile binder since my D got much worse after I had my gall bladder removed. I tried Cholesteramine, but it made me feel sick all over. I recently tried welchol. I have seen that people who take this seem to do much better with their D. Unfortunately, I am retired and medicare and medicare supplementary insurance will not cover this medicine. I did very well on welchol during the first week and after about two weeks, it seemed to not help much at all. I am curious as to whether others have tried bile binders and what were the results. Did it help significantly?

I have had IBS confirmed over 30 years ago. I feel like I’m having a flare up with heartburn sometimes. I have some pains just below my ribs and just under my ribs right side. I definitely have some gas both ends common I believe and finally I’m getting some come and go aches in right side shoulder and right chest ache. All on the same side. Sound familiar to anyone?? Thanks

Hi new here but sadly not new to IBSD. Hope you are all managing living with IBS. It is such an awful condition to live with. Apologies if my post is too graphic: I've tried to be as polite as possible. But this condition is not something one can talk about easily face to face, and especially to those who do not suffer with it. I get IBSD flare ups- stomach ache, the runs and awful nausea ( feel like I'm gonna throw up and at times makes me heave). Anyone else experience this? It usually comes on quickly too. Onset varies- sometimes got wind and/ or heavy feeling in tummy beforehand; then it's the runs, then get nauseated. Feeling like this now, so t…

I haven't checked in here in a while but you all aren't far from my thoughts. I had a terrible time with IBS-D and an idiot doctor so I was on my own when I found this support group. I got a lot of help from quercetin and L-glutamine along with time and the typical things we have all tried. I'm writing today to mention 2 more supplements I have found that are helping me A LOT. They are Essiac Tea ( https://store.renecaissetea.com/products/blue-moon-herbs-essiac) and Wobenzym digestive enzymes. The Essiac i learned about because I am now giving it to my dog to fight a tumor she has. Then I read that it is also good for sufferers of IBS. I really think it has en…

Hey Guys, I am IBS patient C/D. Sometimes, I have sudden urgent bowel movement without any warnings. Is there any medicine for that. I have tried probiotics, peppermint oil tablets but they dont seem to help. I can take Imodium, that solves that problem for some time but hurts my stomach till I have bowel movement. Thanks.

I was contacted by WEGO Health over the last week to help them engage some US-based IBS Patients who can speak about IBS-D (diarrhea) who could take part in an online study/survey. I emailed a few people over the last week. WEGO is looking for even more IBS-D people so they asked me to share this with the community. If you are interested there would be a nominal Amazon gift card provided for your time. The first step in the process is to complete this 2 minute survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/IBSD-JR I have been involved in these survey’s before and they only take a few minutes of your time are are very helpful at replenishing your Amazon gift card…

This new study found that a common food preservative is killing the beneficial bacteria of our gut microbiome. Loss of species and disruption of balances has been linked with IBS. This is just one more reason to avoid processed foods. https://mauinow.com/2017/11/10/uhmc-study-common-food-preservatives-kill-beneficial-bacteria/ more reasons to avoid processed foods : emulsifiers. Theses are added to many products from foods to cosmetics. I looked into polysorbate 60 this morning and here is what I found. It is important because emulsifiers are causing chronic inflammation to our gut microbiome. They are also connected with allowing…
