Diarrhea predominant IBS (IBS-D)

Hi Jeff! and Everyone reading this post, Thank you. 😊 Question please for anyone who has taken both Lotronex BRAND and GENERIC versions I have taken BRAND since its inception 20 years+ But for the past 45 days, I had to switch to GENERIC ALOSETRON because of Cost and coverage. Did anyone notice a difference in effica👍cy? I think GENERIC doesn't work as efficaciously for me as BRAND. My mother has IBS and the pain in lower gut sends her into tears. She is full of gas. She can't release it and she is so depressed. She has lost 45 pounds in 5 months and is as weak as a kitten. She is on the first fodmap but as of yet still not any relief. I purchased a bottle of walmart brand of peppermint oil capsules, but she says she feels it is pointless and will not work. Have any of you used? What were your results? I also read that exercise helps but she has very limited mobility and can't, wondering if anyone has a tips on this.

I have had IBS-D for about 10 years now. I go through times when it is not an issue and then it comes on like a plague. I like all of us have trigger foods like: spicy, greasy, lactose, raw veggies, and beans. But I can eat some things in those families of foods and be fine like cheese, or carrots, or French fries (only when made at home). So, I made a food journal and realized that I can eat pretty much anything and be ok today and not tomorrow. Is that how IBS is? Your stomach just decides when it likes things and when it doesn't? I had an operation (robotic ventral rectopexy) very recently. I was told that I must take laxatives for 6 weeks afterwards to ensure all faecal matter passed was very soft. As I have IBS-D, the seemed a crazy thing to do ! However, I did take 3 doses of the Lactulose prescribed after which I suffered awful wind and associated pain. I stopped taking the laxative but took care not to strain in any way and to keep my fluid intake up. The operation was not sucessful and has to be repeated. Shall I take a laxative this time - if so which one ?

Good evening, I was glad to come across this support group for IBS. I think I might have IBS, and I have a colonoscopy next week to rule anything else out. I’ve been dealing with on and off episodes for the last 18 months but the episodes rarely lasted more than 2 weeks. Its now been over 6 weeks of daily symptoms (cramps, gas, super loud noises, pain, nausea, diarrhea mostly, but constipation as well). Can IBS be chronic with no rest days or symptom-free days? I have suffered with IBS with diarrhea since college. During periods of active IBS, I have walked into places and immediately looked to where the bathrooms are. Recently, the IBS has been pretty bad….soiling myself and clothes five times in an evening. But today was the first time I ever completely soiled myself at work with it running down my leg while rushing to the toilet. I had to leave the office to come home, clean up and get my clothes and winter coat into the wash. I am demoralized. I am broken. No diet seems to work. No medicines seem to work. I am nearly at the end of my rope.

Hi, I was prescribed xifaxan for my IBS-D. I only took it for a few days because it made my diarrhea so much worse. Has anyone else had this experience? Can anyone tell me if they had that experience how long it took to get back to my regular IBS state? I don't think it is C-diff because I only took the xifaxan for maybe three days and the diarrhea was worse than usual, but no other symptoms like nausea or fever. I've read this medication does help many people, but for me it just made my IBS-D worse. I'm sure it would be helpful for some people, just not me. thanks. josh

This is how mine is going lately. Bad runs are completely brown water. Dec 13 bad runs Dec 14 to Jan 3 one bad day ( normal movements the other days) Jan 6 to Jan 12 all bad runs Jan 13 to Jan 17 all good (1 normal day. Nothing on other days). Jan 18 to ? all bad runs

Hello everyone, I have "apparently" had IBS-D for around 13 years. 10 years ago I had a perianal fistula as well, but multiple capsule endoscopies, colonoscopies, and calprotectin tests revealed it to be likely cryptoglandular (hopefully), rather than the "other" big C. Anyway, I have a few questions about diet and future health. I am 41 years old now and my current treatment regime includes- 2500mg Rifaximin daily, S. boulardii, loperamide, and low fiber diet. Prior to the Rifaximin I could not tolerate fatty foods either (even eggs and salmon would set me off), but with the Rifaximin I have beem able to add both eggs and salmon back into my diet. Does anyone know or is it known if a person eats less than they will have less diarrhoea?

I have dealt with IBS-D for approximately 10 years, I'm 36 currently. Initially, it would be occasional diarrhoea followed by completely normal stool. Now, I am dealing with mostly a type 6 on the Bristol Stool Chart. I've seen multiple doctors (the last of which told me we have tried everything and I should simple come to terms with this and learn to live with it), had a bunch of coloscopies and endoscopes, and have tried a variety of medication. Nothing has really worked. The good news is that I generally don't find myself with urgency. I can get through the day fairly easily, the most I deal with is gas and bloating. Im trying to get my insides back to normal working order. But i have loose stools everyday, even on the low fiber diet. I was given Bentyl. but its too strong for me. Im one of those highly sensitive people. I do have essential tremors so Im not sure if thats adding to my issues.

So I'm guessing there is no help no hope.

Hello everyone, I feel that I have been suffering from IBS since I was a little girl I’m 31 now. Most of my flare ups come when I have a lot of anxiety. I did a stool sample and just wonder if anyone has had anything come back out of range during your stool results if they were done in the middle of an IBS flare up.

I've had issues with IBS or so the docs say for almost 20 years. I've been poked prodded and scoped and tested and everything looks ok. Diarrhea I can deal with, cramps I can deal with. What is weird to me and what's killing me are these other symptoms. Headaches, depression, anxiety, flu like symptoms, irritability, difficulty sleeping. All this has been getting worse in the past couple months. I am a cook and ate a quarter of a small sandwich today testing for flavor and 30 min later I had bad gas, got a headache and 4 hours later it felt like I was coming down with the flu and got super depressed. Sadly my stupid MD was only prescribing one 20mg capsule daily. Phamacist told him he must order Bentyl {dicysclomine} 20mg capsule initial dose is 20 mg four times a day. BUT even on prpper dose after 2 months stomach/ intestinal pain not as severe, but no improvment in Diarrhea. This disease is a CURSE

Been struggling for weeks with IBS D

I have been on Lotronex or it’s generic for 7+ years. I moved 2 1/2 years ago and my PCP was writing the prescriptions. She informed me she will not write another prescription. I am looking for a gastroenterologist in the Myrtle Beach, SC, Charleston, SC or Wilmington, NC area. I have called several offices but to no success. I’ve tried reaching out to the manufacturer and other support groups. The last time I had a problem getting my prescription, I ended up bedridden for a month. I am panicking.

Hi all, new here. I've had, what Doctors believe, IBS for around 20 years. I've had so many tests, including Endoscopies, Colonoscopies, stool samples..... I don't supper with pain, except awful reflux. I have chronic diarrhoea, every day. Sometimes up to 7 times a day. I also have extreme bloating, to the point I look pregnant and get very breathless. When my diarrhoea is at its worst, it leaves me with horrendous heartburn which makes me feel so sick. I'm really getting so down now, it just seems to be getting worse every day 😞

I have had IBSD for 30 + years. About 15 years ago it got so out of control that the Dr finally put me on a trial med, which was Crazy expensive at the time, but it worked. The only problem with that med was it could cause blockages, and I started worrying about thst when my system slowed way down after several years of use. So I went off the meds and surprisingly seemed to be in remission for the last several years. Well now, I will suddenly have a Very runny bout of diarrhea with no warning. Once again IBSD is taking over my life. Anyone else have similar problems??

I’ve read some people are having good luck with the Caltrate 600 +D purple and white bottle. I started. Haven’t seen anything yet but I have only taken it for about 2 days. Just wondering how long does it take for it to start working?

Has your GI doctor ever discussed small intestinal bacterial overgrowth? For the 1st time in 5 yrs mine did and its because I brought it up. After all the normal imaging and tests, I did, I continued my search and found this "possibility" that its what I might have. She prescribed an antibiotic which she says is very safe because your body doesnt absorb it, it goes into the intestine and fights the "bad" bacteria. Xifaxan 550mg tablet is what she prescribed.

I had h pylori and for 8months doctors didn’t do any test. I just had sore throat no cough. Every time I go to ER they just look at my throat and say everything is fine. I kept telling them i feel burning in my throat. Finally i asked my family doctor to do stool and blood test. It turns out there is too much acid in blood and stool test came out positive for h pylori. Note that even i have h pylori for more 8months i did not have any gut issues at all. I was diagnosed with IBS. I have had it for a year now. It has gotten worse. I would have diarrhea a few times a day and would survive on only rice and carnation breakfast drink. I’ve had 10 admissions for dehydration. The pain is tremendous. The diarrhea has worsened. Believe or not I counted the other day about 30-50 episodes of diarrhea. It was pouring out of me.
