Diarrhea predominant IBS (IBS-D)

Hi, have just discovered this forum and have seen a lot of familiar things being discussed. It’s been immediately very comforting. I’ve recently started having the problem of having to rush to the toilet within minutes of waking and having very loose, mushy stools. ‘Normally’ I would get up, breakfast and then within a short while have to go, have a good healthy BM and then again perhaps within the hour. I have IBS-D for 20 yrs. I’m now trying to eat healthier as it has been flaring up a lot due to work/life/home stress. I have had leakage at work and now everyone knows I’m disgusting. The comments of take a shower or I’m going to throw up has made my anxiety and depression sky rocket so much I just can’t take it. I have left jobs due to me smelling. I’m now on Paxil for my depression/anxiety. I’m hoping that will calm some of my symptoms but the damage is done at work. I just want to quit and live under a rock. I cry myself to sleep cause no one wants to be near me. I just don’t want to feel like I’m the only one going through this.

Hi, I've had a recent diagnosis of IBS and I'm struggling so much mentally. It started in October with stomach pains. Recently it's got worse and I can't remember the last time I had a normal bowel movement. Yesterday I had diarehea all day. I have mebeverin but doesn't help. I've had blood tests and all results normal. I'm waiting for ultrasound and to do stool test. My Dr is not concerned. I have health anxiety so ofcourse my nervous stomach makes things worse. I'm a healthy person, good diet, exercise etc but I've had to give up running. I am probably peri menopausal so not sure if this is causing IBS. I have had stomach problems for a while now, it started as nervous tummy where i would have to sprint to the bathroom whenever i was nervous, now i get nervous about being nervous so im forever in the bathroom. I was diagnosed officially with IBS after ruling out celiac etc, im just so miserable. Im terrified to eat in fear of needing the bathroom so restaurants are a no go for me now. I was put on mebeverine 135mg and loperamide 2mg which do help, i have them most days to keep my bowel movements firmer and calmer for me, however sometimes my body just ignores this and goes crazy regardless. Many people diagnosed with IBS-D may actually have Bile Acid Malabsorption (BAM). I found this article from the Mayo Clinic (link below) and asked my doctor if i could try Colesevelam, and it has worked for me. 32 days with no diarrhea, not once! Dosage is between 2 - 6 tablets per day. i started at 6 and it's a little constipating so i've been decreasing and am now at 3 per day. My bowel movements are constantly changing and inconsistent. They have been mostly tending toward diarrohea and particularly bad over the last 2-3 months, but my GP has no answers, apart from agreeing to my earnest request for a CT scan. I now have to take at least 1 Imodium per day just to be able to get out of the house. Recently this isn`t sufficient and I have to add in a couple of Zapain tablets. These provide pain relief and with the Imodium they slow down my bowels even more, which is desireable. This is worrying but more so are the lower stomach pains that precede a bout of diarrohea. I was diagnosed IBS about 4 years ago, when my IBS produced a fistula that was successfully operated. A couple months ago i had a flare up, that i described as an inflamatory process with diarrea and with no aparent causes. About a month ago a new fistula apeared. I was waiting to go to the gastroenterologist to get it removed again but then last week the following happened: A week ago i didnt had a flare up (no diarrea) but i did had an inflamatory process. In mid April 2023, my gastroenterologist “empirically” prescribed an antibiotic for me, Xifaxan, which she said “attacks the overgrowth of good bacteria in the small intestines.” After taking for the prescribed 14 days, I have been totally symptom-free for over 2 months. My doctor did inform me that some patients have to take the prescription again if they experience a recurrence of symptoms. *On a financial note, my out of pocket co-pay for Xifaxan was $745, AFTER my Medicare covered $1500! So far, a very pricey remedy!

I am really freaking out that Viberzi is no longer available in Canada. My IBS was under control but now is not. Can we get it from the USA? What are you using now?

I have had IBS-D for about 15 years (I am 40 now). I think I have had it for most of my life, but don't recall if I had these issues when I was a kid. More than 10 years ago, I was traveling in Thailand and came back with Giardia, which went undiagnosed for a while, then finally found and treated with antibiotics. i am a 83 year old male caucasian diagnosed with IBS 30 years ago. until 12 years ago, it was very manageable . then i got CDIFF. since then, i have had to cope with fecal urgency . the cdiff tests negative for 5 years now but had to do three antibacterial drug regimens, the last being 3 months of Vancomyicin(?) in the last 5 years, colonoscopy reveals nothing. have tried the usual probiotics with no real improvements. my symptoms are urgent, very urgent, bms but with no pain before or after. if a toilet is within one minute access, i'm fine. just sort of stuck having to be near a toilet. imodium seems to help but not much. the reason i 'm wr…

greetings, do you experience nausea after having diarrhea? That's what I tend to experience. I could wake up hungry. Then I evacuate. Then I do my exercises. And I realize I'm no longer hungry. I wonder what causes that? thanks for your feedback! take good care!

Not loose although sometimes hard to distinguish, wondering how frequently do you get Diarrhea?

I am in my seventies and have suffered from IBS on and off throughout my adult life. It began by affecting my bladder, making having to pee extremely urgent at time. Sometimes the urge would become uncontrollable and I would wet myself. Eventually I was referred to a specialist in urology who prescribed Solefenacin tablets, one a day. These have helped enormously in enabling me to hold back the pee until I could find a toilet, and I haven't had any 'accidents' since. Hi All I have IBS-D, suffer with bad nausea but also suffer from chronic tension headaches and some mild depression and insomina, was citalopram and mirtazapine but I have put on over 3 stone and have had enough so I came off the both but the nausea and IBS and headaches got bad and sleep well whats sleep so GP said go back on the mirazapine reluctantly I did but 2 weeks on I have decided I cant stay on this pill, please can someone help, tried Amitrypline, nortriptyline never helped, Prozac helped the depression but not the chronic headaches, tried loads Ihave been looking and alot of people say Cymbalta can been a good one, anyone out there help me please.

Hi all, I just found this forum today and already it has been a godsend with the advice and real stories posted here. I've suffered with IBS for most of my adult life, I'm now 51. I have a doctor who just throws medication at me and I never feel like I get any better. I also suffer from acid reflux and have after a recent colonoscopy was told I have metaplasia of the stomach. It's all overwhelming and a minefield. What might good for IBS, is not necessarily good for acid reflux! Good afternoon I am on Sertraline 200 mg and take Omeprazole every day, which has been linked to microscopic (less-serious) colitis as well as IBS-D. Last night, I was celebrating an occasion and had a small glass of Rose. However, today, I have had very severe diarrhoea and urgency. I am just wondering if there is some interaction? I feel fine otherwise, and have not lost weight. Just have a tendency to have UTIs! I am 66. Many thanks for any insights.

I have had gastritis for about a year and has gotten considerably worse these past few months. I follow a strict diet. Many of the conventional medications make me ill. I have lost 25 pds and am at a loss. Anyone else experiencing this?

Well I’m at my wits end. Stressed,depressed and desperate. I’m 41 and have been battling this for over a year IBSD. I was always outgoing and loved life but now I can’t even function enough to keep a job or do anything that involves leaving home. And over the counter stuff seems to give no relief or make symptoms worse. I’m so tired of battling this.

I'm positive for Vinculin and cdtB. Everything started after a foliculitis infection. I get rashes in the perianal area that burn and get infected with a fungus. I also get joint pain that gets worse when the burning bets worse. For me Beef Thyroid supplement helps and gets rid of the rash and reduced the joints pain. I'm currently doing a anti-fungal treatment. Does anyone know if there is a immunotherapy that stops anti-Vinculin. Does anyone else also test positive for Vinculin and CDTB?
