Diarrhea predominant IBS (IBS-D)

Diarrhea predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) is a subtype of IBS in which a person experiences frequent episodes of diarrhea with accompanying abdominal pain. Post-Infectious IBS (PI-IBS) is IBS following a digestive illness like food poisoning or gastroenteritis. This is also a forum for increased intestinal permeability, Incontinence or Odor. Some refer to odor as fecal body odor (FBO) or simply rectal odor.

I've recently had a viral infection for a week (fever, nasal congestion, sinus issues, tested negative for covid). After this my IBS has flared up, but unlike what it usually does, I've been having night time pain, which makes me toss and turn for quite a while before falling asleep and wakes me up really early in the morning (around 5:30). This is now, which does seem to be better than when it first happened. Right after the head cold, I was woken up by pain and had diarrhea at night for a couple of nights. Since then I've been stuck with the pain before falling asleep for a few weeks. Some nights the pain wakes me up, and some nights it doesn't. I'm wondering if it's be…

Hi, all. I've noticed that once in a while when I am very stressed, cramps and diarrhea will wake me up from sleeping. Does this ever happen to you? How do you deal with it?

Hi, I've been dealing with IBS for nearly ten years now ever since I had my gallbladder removed (though I think it was before then and the two issues exacerbated each other). A recent flare up due to my own mistake has me wondering if anyone else experiences this... when I have an attack, my body temp goes a little crazy. I can be super hot and then feel freezing shortly after. But I also get what seems like the chills on and off, like when having a fever but I don't have a fever. Does anyone else experience this? It's always gone hand in hand with a flare up so I assumed it was related to IBS but suddenly I'm wondering if it could be something else. Tak…

Hello everyone, Does anyone else experience nighttime cramps / gurlgling / diarrhea and / or weight loss with their IBS-D? During flares I get both of these. I've had 2 colonoscopies in the past. Had one in 2010 that showed proctitis / inflammation of my rectum but I also had a cryptosporidium infection at the time so the GI doctors chalked the inflammation up to that. The second one was in 2018 and only showed very mild inflammation in my colon and terminal ileum which the GI doctor / pathologist didn't think was Crohn's disease (more likely a resolving infection or maybe due to medication use). Despite these "abnormal" colonoscopies I've been diagnosed with IB…

Hello, first time here. I've had sticky, loose and floating stools for several months. Very uncomfortable and hard to clean so i hurt the skin. Does anyone know if it is a symptom of anything else than IBS? Or have any advice to make the stool harder, formed and easy to clean? Im on a gluten, dairy, and sugar free diet (not total but at 90% at least) and was trying low Fodmap diet but these problems continue. I would appreciate if you could share anything on this. Thanks!

I have IBS-D. As I have hit 58, it is now really crazy. If I don't take immodium, I have to go 5-6 times in the morning. Sometimes I have to take 3-4 immodium. That is my doctor's solution citrucel at night and immodium in the morning. The problem with taking all that immodium is that the next day I am stuck, then the day after this I have the diarrhea again. I have begged her for help, since today I missed work. The immodium can stop it between 1-2 hours, but I still have several hours of lower abdominal pain after that. She says there is something else, but it is tricky, since I have to take it 2 hours before any other medication. Well fine. I am not a mo…

Hi, I came down with PI-IBS over the summer after food poisoning. My gastro Dr doesnt care to find out why I haven't been able to walk or stand for more than 10 withought my stomach hurting so bad I have to sit down. I've even had to buy a wheel chair and have to use the electric ones at the store. Has this happened to anyone else? It's bad enough that i have lost my favorite foods, but now I can't even walk to the park a block away.

I have had IBS since I was a teen but I never knew what was wrong with me until a few years ago. My GI doctor finally diagnosed me and told me to take Mirilax, I been taking it now for 3 years and probiotics but I still get leaky gas and my poop is tiny and in pieces or stringy. I still can’t normalize my bowels and I’m just giving up. Is there something that can prevent the leaky gas and normalize my bowels?

Greetings, I am lactose intolerant and also have osteoporosis. I had mostly given up on dairy products but was thinking of trying an enzyme product that helps digest lactose like Fast Act. So I was wondering if anyone in the group has tried any products that help digest lactose. I find it hard to consume enough calcium by only consuming green vegetables, fish w/ bones, certain beans, oranges etc. It seems like if I could digest yogurt, for example, I would be able to get the RDA of calcium. Thanks for any ideas you may have on this subject. Have a good day!

Greetings, I had an experience where I tried a chewable vitamin made with mannitol (a type of sugar alcohol.) I felt normal that day. Then the next day right after eating I got really strong intestinal cramps followed by great urgency to go to the bathroom. I have had similar experience when consuming foods with sorbitol, but in those cases it was the same day and not the following day. Perhaps it's because as we age our digestion works more slowly. Has anyone had any similar experiences with these types of artificial sweeteners? Thanks for any feedback you may have.

I'm at my wits end here. No one knows what I have. Three years ago, I just got diarrhea and my stomach has not stopped since. I get diarrhea when I eat more that bird portions. There no reason for my stomach issues. I can eat something one day and the next day eat it and my stomach will freak out. I've had to cancel important plans because I can't leave the house some days. I'm paranoid when I do go out. I don't think it's IBSD, only because I know several people that have it and I don't have the right symptoms/situation for it. I don't have flare ups. If barely eat, I'm fine. If I eat normal size portions my body freaks out. I am overweight so I do have issues controlli…

I’ve lived with IBS for a very long time and no real change in my symptoms. But for the past few days I’ve had abdominal pain that’s different than I’ve had before. It’s new and I don’t know how long it will last. I just made a doctors appt. but wanted to see if anyone else has this happen. I’m having dull achy pain and it’s just different. We all know our bodies and what we feel. This isn’t my normal Stomach pains.
