Hello everyone,

I'm just back from hospital after seeing a gastroenterologist and I would need some of your advices...

I have IBS-C type (I think... Even though I have one bowel movement daily and stools are always soft if not very soft but it takes me a really long time with often the feeling of not emptying my bowel completely so that's why I'm consider more as IBS-C). So after examination, my gatsroenterologist said that I have a prolapsed hemorrhoid stade 2 (a lump comes out during defecation and can be pushed back) : it's not painful, I don't have any pain and it’s like that for many months now. He prescribed me Daflon 500 to take 3 times a day for 1 month and also suppository (Doproct rectal) for 14 days, hopping that it will help the haemorrhoid to become smaller. I'm a little bit afraid that this prescription might not be appropriate because it looks like it is more to help with symptoms which I don't have (no pain). And 1 month of Daflon seems pretty long/strong, knowing that no more than 7 days is usually recommended. I'm leaving in a country where the medical system is not that develop and where systematic prescription of tonnes of medicine is very common. I also know that when I have to take medicine, it does affect very easily my digestive system and I don’t want to take medicine if not really useful. Do you have any experience by taking those medicines or any recommendation? Thank you.

	Lily.

I have just been prescribed Linzess for my chronic C, it is so bad right now I can't eat without pain, seriously impacted throughout my colon. I do not want to take it during the day due to my work schedule. I am thinking I could take it when I get off work at 4pm since we don't eat till the earliest 5 but sometimes as late as 7. My stomach should be empty since I won't eat since lunch. I don't go to bed till around 10pm so should have plenty of time to clean out. Thoughts on whether this would be ok to do or not?

I have had IBS-C for 50 years. It has also been diagnosed as idiopathic chronic constipation. I have tried everything that anyone can think of. Really. The only medication that ever worked for me was Zelnorm. I got about two years out of it, and then it stopped working. It was also taken off the market about 20 years ago. I just tried IBSRELA, and it works almost as well as Zelnorm did when Zelnorm was still working. I would encourage everyone who can to try it. My bowel movements approach normal, and there is no lower abdominal pain at all. I don't know if this will last, but it is certainly worth trying if you can.

HI. I've been on Linzess for at least a month. My question is this: I know I am supposed to take it on an empty stomach and wait a half hour before eating. I take it with a glass of water when I first wake up. I do wait at least a half hour before eating, but I often have difficulty waiting a half an hour to have coffee. I'm not having D. I still get constipated frequently, thought the bloating and constipation has decreased since I started Linzess. Do you think drinking the coffee less than than a half an hour after Linzess is putting a damper on it's effectiveness? I should be able to control myself, but I'm quite addicted to caffeine, and I'm lost until I have a couple of cups of black coffee. Thoughts?

Has anyone been prescribed Bentyl? How did it go? I am newly diagnosed, and quite honestly, don’t have a lot of faith in my current physician. Like many, I suppose, I had to pretty much self diagnose, after which he seemed to do some research on the topic (it was a telemedicine visit), and immediately prescribed Bentyl. I can go from soft stools in the morning to what feels like cement in my stomach in the afternoon, and this is usually when the pain starts. I see that Bentyl can cause constipation. Also, I asked if this was something to take regularly or as needed, and he said “as needed,” though that’s not what the online description says. The prescription isn’t in yet, so I don’t know what his instructions will say.

My doctor doesn’t believe I have IBS, but has not given my problem a name. I’ve been looking at so much information online looking for help. I’ve struggled with contsipation over the years, but nothing like what I’m experiencing now. Lactulose and senna did not work. Eventually, I had to go to the hospital in July and had a fecal impaction which, after several suppositories and enemas, they cleared with a barium enema. They did a colonoscopy and said except for a diverticulum near the anal opening, everything looked good. I used Miralax and colace for a couple months which worked until it didn’t. I used two bottles of mag citrate, which cleaned me out and called my doctor. He prescribed Linzess 145 in the morning. I’ve been using 6 days…no results until my body told me it was time for a BM. It’s there, but nothing’s coming out. My doctor told me to increase 145 to two times a day and use a bottle of mag citrate before going to bed tonight and if necessary, use another bottle tomorrow night. I feel the urge to go it still won’t come out…not even the gas. I trust my doctor, but am worried about this. Has anyone had a similar situation?

I have been taking Loperamide 2 mg daily for IBS-D for at least 6 months. For a while now, I have had a lot of dizziness, faintness + general sluggishness. I have a low heart rate and stopped taking 5mg Amylodipine (daily) over 3 weeks ago, assuming that these bp pills were lowering my bp too much. Since then, the practice nurse has taken my b.p - 122/76 but I measured it today as 160/70 - I was stressed to be fair. The symptoms however have persisted. Could these be caused by the Loperamide instead ? I wonder if anyone has had similar problems with Loperamide ?

An update from the FDA on the medication for IBS-D called Lotronex (alosetron hydrochloride) which is only marketed in the US.

Lotronex and approved generics are FDA approved for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome in women whose predominant bowel symptom is diarrhea.

Although safety risks for Lotronex (alosetron hydrochloride) and approved generics still exist, FDA has determined the risk evaluation and mitigation strategies (REMS) programs for these drugs ARE NO LONGER NECESSARY to ensure the benefits outweigh the risks of ischemic colitis and serious complications of constipation.

Aside: In 2002, myself & 10 other IBS patients testified at the FDA asking for Lotronex to be returned to the market as we deemed it safe if prescribed correctly. Hello. I’m new to this site. I was diagnosed with severe, atypical, post-viral IBS-C some 8 years ago, and was fully investigated.

I have had very little relief with the usual Allopathic remedies, including Amitriptyline and SSRI’s, and dietary manipulation, including low FODMAP. I tried several reputable probiotics, including Symprove and VSL3, but found that Alflorex relieved the constipation.

I started taking Ferrocalm about 16 weeks ago and experienced adjustment symptoms from day 1 which still persist. These include worsening pain , looseness, flatulence, as well as Jarisch-Herxheimar type symptoms of headache, skin rashes and joint pains.

i have no features to suggest IBD or a bowel neoplasm, and feel that my persistent symptoms are the result of a severely dysbiotic gut microbiome.

Does anybody have experience of taking Ferrocalm , or has anyone experienced prolonged adjustment symptoms with any other probiotic?

I do believe that Ferrocalm is doing its job, and remain hopeful that I’ll see an eventual improvement.
