With a heavy heart I regret to announce that Lee Nussbaum passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of Sunday July 30, 2023. Lee was one of the original moderators here on our IBS website community forum as well on our FB group. Lee and I have known each other for many years. I enjoyed celebrating our birthdays together as Lee was born 1 day before me in the same year and because of this I always referred to Lee as my twin. She was an incredibly supportive friend to me and others. Lee quietly dealt with her own treatment and illness for the last several years while still able to pop in here once in a while. My deepest condolences to her family on her passing.…

In the early morning hours of July 13th, Calida (her username) passed away. She was from Texas and was an old BB member and quite possibly one of the original members from Parkview Publishing. A lovely lady with a heart of gold. She moved to Panama about four or five years ago to live with her son. Through her eyes, I came to love Panama and loved to hear (read) her tell of daily life in the mountain region. Although we never got the chance to meet in person, I feel fortunate to have known her. Her health was not the best for a long time, but she did her best to stay upbeat.I miss your e-mails, Calida! I miss your charm and wit. What am I going to do without you?! You wil…

Dr. Gerson was a great friend to myself and the IBS community. He and his wife, Mary-Joan Gerson Ph.D. started the Mind-Body Digestive Disease Center in NYC for managing patients with IBS. Charles Gerson, MD died peacefully at home on May 21, 2017 after struggling with illness. He was 80 years old. Raised in Washington Heights, Charles loved playing sports, especially golf, while attending Bronx High School of Science and then at Cornell University. His choice of medicine as a career was a natural result of his interest in science and his general wish to care for people and to protect life. He attended medical school at the Downstate University of New York. After his…

Dr. Irvine was my gastroenterologist for quite a few years. We had known each other prior to her joining Sr. Michael's Hospital in Toronto as I assisted her in recruiting for her clinical work while she was at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. She was a very intelligent, kind, and compassionate woman who was involved in the Rome Foundation work related to Functional GI Disorders (FGiD's), which includes IBS. We attended medical conferences together on many occasions. She had a passion for caring for patients and treating them with support and dignity. Jan is sadly missed by her many patients.

With deep sadness and a heavy heart I would like to let you know that a great IBD and IBS Advocate recently passed away.Jennifer Jaff, a lawyer whose nearly four-decade struggle with Crohn's Disease led her to become a leading advocate for people with chronic illnesses, died on Sept. 14, 2012 at her home in Farmington, Conn. She was 55.Jennifer started the Advocacy for Patients with Chronic Illness organization to help people with legal challenges related to their chronic illness. Jennifer was a tireless supporter of IBD and IBS patients. I frequently referred IBS sufferers to Jennifer. This article appeared in the New York Times about her passing.http://www.nytimes.com/20…

It is with great sadness that I am passing on word that Judy has died. She was one of the early members here and fought a long and difficult (but very courageous) battle with cancer. I wanted to mention that as much as she suffered the past several months, Judy still retained her sense of humor.I spoke with her several times/week and despite the pain she was in, she still cracked jokes and laughed.I don't know that I have ever met a person with as much strength as she had. She had untold amounts of inner strength. She was so appreciative of everyone's kind wishes and thoughts, even though she didn't have the strength to answer everyone personally. Her memory will live on i…

Paul here (Sue insisted on referring to me as GG). To all the board members who knew and corresponded with SueV, in particular those who have left kind tributes, I wanted to say thank you on behalf of myself and the children. Sue came to this board at a difficult time of her life a few years ago. She found the interactions with those she befriended here to be therapeutic and heart warming. I know Sue was a profilic poster and her zany humour and unique turn of phrase made her a popular member. I know she also helped a few board members through some tricky times and made some good friends in the process. For all of this I wanted to say thank you. We had a service of thanks…

*****************************A very dear friend of mine, *Lynn*, whom some of you know and may remember, and to those who did not have thejoy of her company here on Jeff's Board, please bear with me, I wanted to share with you all this very sad and memorable news... and to add our prayers to the family she had to leave behind, 3 young children, Bobbie Sue, Caleb & Isaiah and her devoted husband Kirk. Tina Lynn or *Lynn* as she was known on the BB died on January 29, 2000 from a recurrent bout of cancer at the age of 40. We met her here in January 1999. Like us, Lynn had ibs which was compounded by cancer. With enormous inspiration, strength, Love & support she gav…

With the growth in this group over the years it is sometimes challenging to remember each and every person; however, Nessa stood out from the crowd. If wealth was measured by kindness, concern and support from the people of this group, than Nessa was a very fortunate woman indeed. You are all too wonderful for words.May Vanessa rest in peace.
