I see it's been a while since you've posted, but I just want to ask—has anyone found a GI who actually takes the time to listen instead of brushing things off as just stress or diet? I’ve seen a couple, and the difference in care was huge. Would love to hear if anyone found a doctor who really helped them sort things out.

Hello, I was diagnosed with IBS-M a year ago. I am wondering has anyone experienced weight loss with this condition? If so, what were your steps to recovery to gaining stable weight?

Hello all, I will try and keep this as short and concise as possible: I have had IBS since my late teens/early 20's (I am 45, now). The daily symptoms/flares were pretty predictable and manageable from my teens up to around 41. I believe I was IBS-D (I only got the generalized IBS diagnosis when I was 21 or so). After 41 or 42, some things changed. I developed more food triggers and the gas, bloating, gut hypersensitivity, and tenesmus aspects became unbearable. I was able to fix most of that, but it's still not quite as predictable as I would like it to be (or like it was before my 40s) and I still have some daily concerns/worries. My patterns now, are roughly: 1. Sev…

Help! Our son has been dealing with IBS on a nearly daily basis for 7 months and it's severely impacting his quality of life. He developed GERD and IBS while on vacation in the Azores, Portugal. Our current G.I. doc thinks maybe he got an infection from something he ate, fish or whatever, and it went untreated, causing the symptoms. He has missed a lot of school and his entire sophmore football season. Now on a 504 medical plan so he doesn't fail because of absences. He continues to have flare ups and I'm worried he may miss more school and his entire baseball season if this continues. Symtoms are almost all morning to noon and is like a balloon expanding in his stomach,…

Hi! I’m just posting this to see if there’s anyone in a similar situation to me please for advice and for the reassurance that I’m not alone in this 🫶🏼 I have suffered from IBS since I was 12 (I am now 23) but recently got mild food poisoning on holiday (June 2025) ever since then I have been in a constant flare that has hospitalised me a few times. I am in constant pain that fluctuates every single day and causes diarrhoea, I have been unable to leave my house for 4 months due to the extreme symptoms that I’m currently experiencing. I have had a colonoscopy, ultrasound, SeHCAT scan and am awaiting an MRI. All of my scans so far have come back clear but I am in crippling…

Hi looking for advice..I was diagnosed with ibs maybe 4 years ago..im not entirely convinced it is ibs due to it being more singular flare ups that seem to happen a couple of times a year day and once I go to the toilet it lasts for maybe 2/3 weeks...this week I've had a flare up despite no change in foods eaten..literally went out with a friend to walk his dogs and had to run back home as I had to go with massive cramps and was actually holding my cheeks together so I didn't poop my self..I made it to the toilet and went upstairs to my room but the cramps were still awful and felt I had to go again but couldn't.. was straining but only liquid was comming out but felt it …

I'm not sure if I have IBS or not. Most of the symptoms I have. This is my first bout if it is. Had it quite painful although I have no bench mark. So I decided to have a hot bath. Instant pain relief. And maintained the relief after getting out 15 mins later. Worked for me. Whatever I had. No harm in giving it a go if you have a bath to use.

Hello everyone, I'm a 43 y/o ..Male.. with a problem... and it's called tenesmus. started about 13 years ago. after the doctors dismissed it as "ibs" i started taking xanax+seroxat and it almost went away.. 90% off .. i was happy enough with it. 5 years ago, it came back.. and it came back hard! I can't work, have a relationship, or just relax it affected my quality of life to a point i don't care about anything anymore. tried again the xanax+seroxat way, no go, tried almost 15 other psychiatric meds, no relief. got myself checked with numerous tests .. all ok. but that damn feeling.. still there.. poking.. almost a pain.. for the last 5 days, i was very stressed, …

Hi there. I've joined on behalf of my partner, as he suffers regular bouts of IBS. These take the form of very bad wind, and the urge to have a BM which are always loose, and mucus. The GP isn't much help. Just standard advice. Haven't been able to identify what causes the flare ups. Tried cutting out things, taking Colpermin, Buscopan which sometimes eases it. Has anyone found anything which has helped? He doesn't get pain as such, just wind and the urge to go. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I wondered if anyone knew something I could take for horrific uncontrollable farting. Its embarrassing. I barely leave the house because of it. It used to be just if I ate, but now it's all the time whether I eat or not. I did a food diary for 3 months but could not see a pattern. The dietician said that the low fodmap diet would just make me constipated and told me "just to eat" as I'd lost so much weight. I have a very restricted diet because I'm scared to try anything new. I have really bad anxiety/depression and won't take medication for this either incase it disrupts my bowels. I was looking for some medication that would stop the farting without upsetting my bow…

Well I have always bowel issues when extremely anxious . I have also intermittent Constipation and diarrhea on a regular basis with no ongoing stressors. I have tried it all elimination diets …dabbled with Fodmap ,vagus nerve ,but starting to think that due my age ( 77) I will have to live with this . My mother lived on Imodium for 20 years after she turned 70 . Beginning to think that is my fate ….lazy colon or bowel . Any thoughts ?

I’ve basically been suffering with IBS for the past 10 years, I can’t remember the exact timing. I’ve had tests which proves I don’t have Crohn’s disease and I’m not celiac either. I’ve been regularly taking Imodium, once a day two tablets in the morning to make me feel I can go about my day. If I do not take these not only will I feel like I cannot go out but I would be taking regular trips to the toilet. I always have an urgency to go and they are very loose and at times painful. I have major anxiety because of this and when I know I have to travel it sometimes gets me emotional. I would like to ask if anyone knows probiotics or supplements that really help as when …

Not posted before. Had ibs for years but last 6 months has been awful. The usual The runs Very rare that I get constipated Swelling abdomen etc but now it's constant, stomach very swollen whether I eat or not. 20 mins after eating I need toilet urgently, a constant cramp, pain upper left, rib area, almost constant nausea. Can feel hungry but when I get few mouthfuls in I feel nauseous. Had all tests, had camera down throat as I began suffering with acid reflux, medication given for that. Had ultrasound, I have gallstones but apparently so do many people and they shouldn't affect me. Ive had chest xray, all OK. Ive done poo samples…

First the question and then you can read the background if you so choose: Has anyone had/is is possible to have a chronic infection with c diff and present with mild, "controllable" diarrhea/chronic loose stools for like three years? This symptom is accompanied by more bothersome symptoms of pain, extreme bloating, unpassable trapped gas and the feeling of fullness/need to belch. I am a 40 year old woman and have had what I called IBS since I was about 21, though there were long spaces between flares and I could manage by eating easy to digest foods for a awhile and be fine, but three years ago after going through a catastrophic life event and the accompanying s…

I am having what the Gastro specialists feels is IBSD. I am also having vagus nerve issues and recently read the vagus nerve issue may be causing the IBSD symptoms. Has anyone had experience with this and found treatment that works? I question if this is truly IBSD, as symptoms only appear once or twice every few months.

I’ve had IBS before, mine is mostly related to constipation, gas and occasional reflux. I had it all under control by eating oatmeal and chia every morning and avoiding dairy. this summer I caught h pylori and several parasites from dirty well water at a vacation rental. It was the first time I encountered this odd feeling. I’ve been taking Zoloft since 2016 and never had “this” feeling. I finished a salad, and I suddenly felt a flutter in my chest and this rush of heat over my body, then I needed to poo. Once I went to the bathroom, everything calmed down. It happened again the next day. I took a stool test and found all the goodies and treated them. …
