I’ve had IBS before, mine is mostly related to constipation, gas and occasional reflux. I had it all under control by eating oatmeal and chia every morning and avoiding dairy. this summer I caught h pylori and several parasites from dirty well water at a vacation rental. It was the first time I encountered this odd feeling. I’ve been taking Zoloft since 2016 and never had “this” feeling. I finished a salad, and I suddenly felt a flutter in my chest and this rush of heat over my body, then I needed to poo. Once I went to the bathroom, everything calmed down. It happened again the next day. I took a stool test and found all the goodies and treated them. …

I’m 42 years old and was diagnosed with IBS-C when I was 16 years of age. My symptoms improved significantly when I was about 30 years old for 11 years. A few months ago my symptoms started up again. Everytime I would eat I would have stomach pain with diarrhea approximately 1 hour later. I also get stomach cramps after approx 1-2 hours of sleep at night which lead to a firm bowel movement followed by diarrhea approximately twice and then it’s over. I had that as a kid but not as often. The way my IBS was explained to me is I don’t go so my body over produces liquid to pass the stools which in turn creates the diarrhea. Anyone have any helpful advice to get back on track.…

Hello. I am a long time IBS sufferer but have managed to make due. It has come to a point though that it is severely hampering my life. Traditional Dr's and meds have been valueless. I have 3 specific developments that I am desperately looking for solutions to and wonder if anyone had suggestions. 1. It has come to a point that I have bowel movements almost every hour. Of all varieties and types. This is true during daytime hours, but I can also wake up a time or 2 in middle of my nights sleep to move my bowels. This doesn't only define my day, but it makes many events such as traveling, or attending events limited. How can I help improve this? Both long term help…

I’m a rising junior in college and am currently working on a research project on IBS. I'm trying to better understand how people manage IBS and what some potential solutions might be. If anyone in the U.S. is open to chatting with me for 20-30 minutes this week, please reach out! I would greatly value any insights you are willing to share. Feel free to contact me via email if interested: [email protected]. Thank you so much for considering this!

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some advice please. I have had IBS-D for 11 years now and I have finally managed to get the pain under control by taking Amitriptyline daily (Co-Codamol as well if I have an IBS attack). I am currently on holiday and my IBS is completely ruining the trip. I find that I am having sudden urges to go to the toilet 3/4 times a day so I am unable to do day trips anywhere that isn’t near a toilet. The heat definitely makes my stomach worse but surely there has to be a way of me not needing to go to the toilet so often I am trying to space out meals and I am not over-eating, I have even tried planning morning trips where I haven…

Hello everyone I've been suffering from G.I problems for 6 years, still undiagnosed, I'm hoping someone can help me. My symptoms began in 2019 everyone though it was crohns, including myself. Traces of both crohns and colitis were found during my first colonoscopy. Oh I should mention I'm currently 38 years old, I'm a male and I live in Canada. I was put on mezavant afterwards, which really eleviated my pain, which was my most troublesome symptom. Still lots of diarrhea, but i didn't care because there was no pain anymore. I'd still go to the bathroom I'd say 10 times per day on a good day and double that on a bad day. Fast forward 4 years later and I started having upper…

Not sure if I’ve ever posted here before, but I’ve been a follower for a while since I was diagnosed with IBS-C years ago. Symptoms used to be pretty straightforward, wouldn’t go for a few days, would have stomach discomfort, and then I would go, be loose stools for a day or two and I was good. I haven’t had any sort of severe flare up in years. First week of June, I noticed any and most foods are just going through me. No pains, just an urgency to go and then I would. Loose stool or two then I’m fine. Since last week it seems like everything is giving me loose, fluffy, sometimes watery stools, with some upper abdominal pain/pressure, belchin…

I have had IBS-C for many years on and off. I have tried many remedies for constipation, but nothing works long term. Fiber just gives me more gas and bloating. Have had colonoscopies and endoscopic. I get indigestion no matter what I eat during these flares. Any suggestions?

Hello everybody! For about a month now I have been feeling a slight pressure in the left area of my abdomen. Initially it started with a sensitivity in the area indicated in green, then I started to feel that pressure in the area indicated in blue that is constantly present. Moreover, in the blue region it could be seen that there is a bulge. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would say the pain is somewhere around 2-3, that is if it can be classified as pain. I went to my doctor, I had a set of blood tests and an ultrasound and the results were good. After the ultrasound the doctor said that the spleen is fine, the kidneys do not have any problem…

Hello all, Whenever I have a flare I lose weight because I lose my appetite and eat way less calories than when I'm not flaring. Yet, all the "textbooks" say weight loss is an "alarm symptom". Do other people have this issue with weight loss during flares of IBS? Thanks. Max

Hi, I'm trying to get some info/advice on stomach probiotics. I had Helicobacter pylori about 5 years ago and the antibiotics to get rid of it ruined something in my stomach and I have had regularly stomach/IBS issues with flare ups, pain, nausea etc lasting days. More recently, a friend recommended Artah Enhanced Synbiotic pills and I take one every morning. To say, my issues have decreased is a understatement. But at £1 a pill I am finding them quite pricey and need a cheaper alternative. To add to this, I don't know what is in them that is helping me so I'm not sure of what exact ingredient I need. I could go and see my stomach consultant again but he'll charge me…

Hello all, I was diagnosed with IBS-D 6 years ago. A year ago I flipped to IBS-C. During this past year my GI pain has become so severe that I am bedridden some days. This has never happened to me until this past year. I am on dicyclomine for stomach cramping and odanestron for nausea. I also take Linzess for constipation and GI pain. I had my third colonoscopy a month ago and felt better after for a few weeks. They found & removed 3 non-cancerous polyps. I had an abdominal ultrasound as well that showed nothing. I have changed my diet completely and it doesn’t seem to be triggered by what I eat. The pain and nausea happen out of nowhere even on da…

Has anyone tried using soluble iron to help regulate bowel movements. It seems to help me and being liquid you can adjust amount according to how your stomach is or if you are going out next day. You must not overdose though and it stains your teeth.

I have been suffering from irritation after bowel movement for years. After each bowel movement i used to lay out somewhere between 15-30min to relieve but now I feel has gotten worse in recent years as there is a sign of constipation during last quarter of bowel movement (not full constipation but not feeling empty, which sucks!). I got two internal hemorrhoid removed (supposedly because doctor was not good, so I am gonna have it inspected). I got advised from same doctor that external ones need to go through surgery. There are several question on this: - I heard about numerious instances that if not done correctly, hemorrhoid will come back, and coup…

Suffered for years with IBS D, but have discovered something that has really made a difference. I stopped drinking copious amounts of water. Before I bought into the advice, you must drink loads of water to keep healthy and awhile back decided maybe I didn’t really need to keep topping up all day. I carried water with me wherever I went. These are the positive changes through drinking when thirsty of course, but not all day. My IBS D has improved so much no more loose stools. My urine cleared it was cloudy. It had a rather strange odour. Now smells as urine should (sorry to be so graphic). Each passing of urine was just a trickle but very o…

Hello my name is Nathan. I am wondering what I can do and if this is normal for Ibs. I have been to the gastro and was told I have Ibs. I have had a fecal test which came back negative. I can be 2-3 months ok, then I can go from diarrhea to constipation, the diarrhea come on after eating large meals and feel relived after a bowel movement. The constipation however is the bad one it’s is usually hard stool that is hard to come out. I also have gas that feels trapped I have no pain just gas pressure in lower stomach.

Hi, I have been dealing with painful cramping and diarrhea for years. I can't make plans to do anything before noon because most mornings I have stomach aches and have more than one bowel movement. Somedays it's really bad, super painful cramping followed by several trips to the restroom with loose stools. The only thing that helps me is Imodium. My doctor has diagnosed me with IBS. Does anyone have any advice, IBS-D runs my life. Thank you. P.s. symptoms did get more consistent as I got older.

I have had urgency to go to the restroom for over 30 years now since my late 20s. It has been diarrhea after eating food most of the time. I didn't have pain or too much of gas etc anytime. In the recent past (about 5 years or so), the symptoms I have are - after eating every meal I have an urge to go to the restroom. It is not diarrhea most of the time, unless I eat something even little bit spicy or outside food (not home cooked) then I have diarrhea. As long as I eat a carefully controlled bland food, I don't have diarrhea - but I still always have the urge to use the restroom after every meal or even breakfast etc. The only time I don't feel the urge is when I dr…

Hi. I'm a 36 year old female. I was diagnosed with IBS in June last year by my GP. My symptoms started around a fortnight after I had to have my 12 year old dog put to sleep. I firstly experienced cramping in my abdomen that felt like my insides were being tied into knots, followed by a sharp pain in the left side of my pelvis. Every time I ate I'd be rushing to the loo, sometimes having up to 7 loose bowel movements per day. I kept going back to my GP surgery and was prescribed mebeverine, which helped with the cramping but not the sharp pain in my pelvis. After probably my 6th visit to the GP with this issue, they arranged for me to do a faecal immunochemica…
