Jeffrey Roberts posted a topic in IBS Medications, Medical Foods and Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT)While at DDW I visited with the pharmaceutical that makes IBgard®. IBgard® uses patented technology to allow peppermint to be absorbed in the small intestine instead of the stomach. Peppermint is known to be a smooth muscle relaxer. It has been used for digestive illness for many years. Peppermint oil is widely recommended by doctors for soothing the bowel related to abdominal pain. I decided to try it for myself. The capsules are green and are easy to swallow. Within 5 minutes I felt a sensation of bursting peppermint in my stomach. It was actually kind of uncomfortable. The instructions indicate that this is not unusual. Within 30 minutes the feeling dissipated. I am not sure of the results; however, I am trying one each day for 7 days to see if there is any difference in my IBS-D/IBS-M. IBgard® is available without a prescription and can be found in many drug stores in the US and Canada. More information about IBgard® can be found on their website, https://ibgard.com
