IBS with flatulence

Featured Replies

Hello, my name is Anastasia. I don't see the point in telling my whole story, so I'll keep it short. I am 21 years old and have been struggling with flatulence for 10 years. I have tried diets, pills, and even treated SIBO with antibiotics. Nothing helps. It is especially bad in the morning. I'm constipated, but I go to the bathroom every day. On top of all this, I've been diagnosed with anxiety and depression. It's really hard for me, and I don't know what to do. Maybe someone else has had this exact problem and can help me somehow??? :( (I use a translator. Sorry if something is not right)

Dear Anastasia,

I am sorry to read that you have been living with this since your were a young child.

Have you ever spoken to a Dietitian about this and have them look at your diet for malabsorption or intolerance?

Good afternoon! As far as I know, malabsorption is a syndrome characterized by impaired absorption of nutrients in the small intestine, leading to diarrhea, etc. I don’t suffer from diarrhea. Quite the opposite, actually. I wouldn’t say I suffer from severe constipation, but I do have certain difficulties with bowel movements. Sometimes it even gets worse. My main problem is excess gas in the intestines. No anti-flatulence medications help me. What else might not be absorbed by the intestines to cause this symptom? I have a problem with my ferritin levels. I have to raise them with IV drips. My ESR is also elevated, but that’s probably due to iron deficiency. I’ve already had a lot of tests done. I have secondary lactose intolerance, but I was on a lactose-free diet for a long time with no results. Thank you for your response and concern!
