Diagnosis yesterday

Featured Replies

Hi all, I was diagnosed with IBS yesterday after 18 months of symptoms. Part of me is happy about the diagnosis but another part is is worried. I know what I need to do: change my diet, do stress management and exercise more. But something just feels really daunting about this.

I understand @Emma_dilemma . Sort of a good thing bad thing situation.

Sorry you were living this long with uncertainty. Was any medication prescribed?

@Jeffrey Roberts No medication was prescribed. Told to do the FODMAP diet and could take over the counter medication if need be

The FODMAP diet can certainly help to identify foods which in higher quantities might help to explain your symptoms, but it's often not the whole picture.

Unfortunately, UK physicians do not have a good track record for supporting and treating patients with IBS. They seem to leave you on your own to fend for yourself.

There are some medications available that your primary care physician might be able to help you with. I'm happy to help guide you if you describe your symptoms. Feel free to private message me or email me at [email protected]
