Linzess and coffee?

Featured Replies

HI. I've been on Linzess for at least a month. My question is this: I know I am supposed to take it on an empty stomach and wait a half hour before eating. I take it with a glass of water when I first wake up. I do wait at least a half hour before eating, but I often have difficulty waiting a half an hour to have coffee. I'm not having D. I still get constipated frequently, thought the bloating and constipation has decreased since I started Linzess. Do you think drinking the coffee less than than a half an hour after Linzess is putting a damper on it's effectiveness? I should be able to control myself, but I'm quite addicted to caffeine, and I'm lost until I have a couple of cups of black coffee. Thoughts?

I've been taking my Linzess with black coffee for three or four years now.  In fact, this morning I had two cups.  I find I need the coffee to increase the effectiveness of Linzess.  It seems to speed up my peristalsis.

Thank you!....(runs to make coffee). I just wish that I didn't still have to take laxatives. Before Linzess it was way worse. I literally could not go unless I took lots of laxatives or two different kinds at once. I even did the enema thing, which wasn't too fun. I was building a tolerance to laxatives. I still have to take them maybe twice per week on average. I drink tons of water, the fiber, the exercise, but yea. So, I may buy some probiotics in pill form...I already eat Greek yogurt. Any ideas on that?

What about your diet? Veggies, apples?

I was diagnosed with gastroparesis, a condition that slows down the digestion of food. Taking fiber makes the condition worse. I get so badly constipated that I'm bent over with cramps. My doctor suggested linzess, but since I take so many different medications now, I didn't want to add to it. A friend of mine suggested coffee in the morning, which I never drink. I am a teetotaler. But I followed his suggestion, and voila, so far it has been working like magic for me. Glad I don't need to take another medication. Let's just hope the coffee continues to work.

These are the adverse side effects that were reported during the research trials when Linzess was approved.

Headaches were seen, but I don't see sinus infections.

Perhaps let your doctor know that you are troubled by this.

I am new to Linzess. Does anyone have swelling or a bulge on the lower left side of their tummy? The gastro doc seems to think this is not a problem he can help me with sadly. He did prescribe Linzess because I bloat after eating….

I’m new to Linzess. The anxiety meds I take slow my system causing constipation. First day Linzess… flood gates.
2nd day Linzess slower

3rd day nothing

4th day nothing, we’ll see tomorrow

Guess too much fiber is no good?  I thought more was better.

I have been on Linzess for IBS-C for 7 months. It seemed to help more at first than now. I added a stool softener back into my evening and still it's back to every few days and not easy at that.  I always wait 30 min and drink my coffee but I rarely eat until about 10.  Should I drink my coffee (with almond creamer) when I get up and then take my Linzess about 930?  Any thoughts??

I have the same issue. I'm hoping I figured out my problem today. I've gone from 145 dose to taking to 290 and still nothing. I take in alot of caffeine in the mornings around sametime I take my linzess. Caffeine is a diuretic. So this morning I increased my water intake and boom....BM😂...I'm hoping this is my fix. I get so excited when I think I've figured it out then...nothing again. Maybe this could be your issue?

My sinus symptoms went away with antibiotics and did not return.

Yes!! I also have had additional swelling that looks like a bulge filled with gas on the lower left side of my tummy that my gastro doc is also not concerned about. All of my doctors just say that this is where stool tends to build up in the colon. Linzess has reduced my bloating and constipation by about 50% but even at the highest dose is still not quite as effective as I had hoped it would be. I will still take the 50%, I am much more comfortable than I was before.
