August 17, 20206 yr comment_42767 Hi, anyone suffering from back pain related to IBS? I have seen several professional (osteopath, chiropractor, naprapat, etc, you name it, I tried it) as well as doctor and did a series of examinations but it always came back clear. They told me to train more which I did but nothing changed. The pain usually come for between 2 weeks and 2 months then disappear and will come back later. I cannot link it to my IBS flare up as I have daily flare up. The pain is at the worst during night and when I woke up (sometimes I cannot move from my bed) and then after a day of working. I have read that IBS sufferer could have "join pain" problem but I have never heard of anyone having the same problem as me. Now the pain would also come in my knee and wrist (last time for three months in a row) and then just disappear before coming back again. I would be glad to know if any of you guys have experienced that and found solution to fix it ( I have tried many medicines but none of them ever worked of helped) but I will be ever gladder if none of you is going through that as IBS is already hard enough to deal with every day ! August 18, 20206 yr comment_42901 I've heard some people complain about back pain related to constipation. I have felt that too, but yours sounds more severe. Joint pain is associated with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). It made me think of that when you said you had it in your knee and wrist. Could it be arthritis? If you can tolerate NSAIDs that might work be reducing the inflammation associated with the pain. Report

September 8, 20206 yr comment_44268 Hi, I have horrific back pain related to IBS. I also have IBS-D and I’ll be bloated for days. I believe it’s the gas inside my intestines that cause pressure against my back and hips. It’s very debilitating and leaves as fast as it comes. Report
September 27, 20205 yr comment_45357 I have had daily back pain from my IBS for the last two years. Fortunately for the last few months it is only off and on. The pain actually began in the front much like a diverticulitis symptom ( although ruled after tests and colonoscopy )..In the beginning the pain was constant in my lower left abdomen (hurt to bend, turn my body or lift my left leg) and then I began to notice it moving up more to my lower back where it is most commonly now. During the worst period I had to resort to Tramadol to dull the pain.. it was fairly effective and also seemed to improve my bowel function. IBS has so many different effects but generally I notice that when my stomach feels worse my pain in the abdomen is better. So I have a continual flip flopping of discomfort from upper gut to lower gut and just occasionally a small break from either. It has been living hell but overall I am not having the worst of worst since the beginning of this episode (2 years- and I was almost symptom free for about 10 years in between) so I have a glimmer of hope that time may be the cure again. I don't have much confidence in science figuring any solution soon. Besides eating small meals and pain medication I have not really found any triggers or other medications or therapies that are helpful. I have gone from 180 lbs to 155 and I have IBS-C. It is definitely related to how my bowel is feeling and not some other cause so I have not tried other types of doctors. My joints and nerves are fine. I did have a little sciatica on the right side but this disappeared some time ago. Report
January 11, 20215 yr Author comment_49703 Hi GardenGirl and Hi David, thanks for sharing your experience. I am sorry that you also suffer from that but I believe we can learn form each other experience (pain?!). As a follow-up the pain has not lived since august. The period of 2 weeks/2 months I had before is not happening anymore. The pain has been there the previous year everyday, now I am experiencing the worst I think (hopefully, I can't imagine how worst it could get!). I am at a point where I almost cannot use my wrist anymore because of the pain. Only hot showers seems to help for a short time. I still am unable to see if there is a relation between my flare up and my backpain but I seems to recall it was slightly better when I did the low fodmap diet (even if it did not help for the diarrhea) Report
August 3, 20215 yr comment_58900 Hi Mathilde, I have IBS an am experiencing joint pain in hands and recently in my upper leg. I was referred to a Reumatologist again because whenever I have an IBS flare, the joints start acting up and now it seems constant and progressing. The first rounds of tests ruled out IBD but I am still testing but it appears to be some type of inflammatory arthritis. You should get it checked out. Report

Low backI would not describe my low back pain as a bruise. Mine fees like an intense ache that is position related. Report
August 21Aug 21 comment_113763 Yes, I do get joint pain. But what bothers me the most is the lower back and flank pain I get whenever I have gas or eat a trigger food... I try to manage it with a hot water bottle, the fetal position, or stretching Report
