Hi, I'm Linda from MO!

I found this site by doing a Google search, and I'm glad to have found it. I was diagnosed with IBS several years ago. It runs my life. I try to watch my diet. I usually only eat once a day. Now that I'm a widow of 4 1/2 years, I rarely cook anything anymore. I usually just nuke some mac and cheese and call that dinner. My IBS is aggravated by stress. When my brother was diagnosed with oral cancer two years ago and went through chemo and radiation, I had diarrhea for the entire seven months of his treatment. No medication that my doctor prescribed worked for me, so I rarely ate anything. As soon as he was declared free of cancer, things went back to normal. Funny how the body responds to stress, isn't it?

The main issue I have right now is gas all the time. It doesn't matter what I eat, I will get gas and bloating about two hours after I eat. I've tried eating things from the IBS diet list, but I still get gas. It's uncomfortable and I don't go anywhere after I eat. Any suggestions from those of you who might have this same issue?

So happy to be here with my fellow IBS-er's! Have a lovely day everyone.

Linda G.

Welcome LindaG.59,

Glad you found us too! :)

I'm sorry for your loss and for the stress related to your brother's cancer diagnosis and treatment.

When you say the IBS diet list, have you looked specifically into the low FODMAP diet? There might be some foods that are causing more gas than others which you might be able to modify and lessen the gas.

Thanks for your reply, Jeffrey! I did look at the FODMAP diet, and realized I need to follow it a bit more closely. I also need to check for additives in things such as salad dressing. I also follow the fibromyalgia diet too, since I have it. Some of the foods in the FODMAP diet cross over into the fibro diet. Somewhat interesting, I think. Thank goodness for these diets to help us out. 🙂 Have a lovely day, Jeffrey.

Oh, that's good that you have something to try. The FODMAP diet is best managed with a Dietitian who is familiar with the diet. It's more complicated because you are also managing Fibromyalgia.

Please let us know how you do!

I wanted to revive this thread since I got diagnosed with IBS-C a couple months back, and have been doing a high-fiber diet. It has helped increase the bowel movement. I have been using an app to track feelings, food, and exercise with my nutritionist. Unfortunately, there is no logic to the data and it appears to be very random. I do have a screening scheduled in a couple weeks for a colonoscopy. Right now, I suffer excessive gas the only relief I have is in the mornings it has been a major stressor for me as the scent hasn't been pleasant at all and actually lingers in my clothes. My nutritionist has suggested drinking peppermint tea and going for brisk walks, but nothing appears to work. I would love to know what methods you have all done to mitigate that have been successful.
