AbbVie has since confirmed to Endpoints that it is discontinuing Viberzi in Canada this year “as a result of our regular business prioritization review.” The drug will continue to be available in the US, as well as the UK — where Sam lives —  with “no plans to discontinue,” a spokesperson said. It had already been discontinued in the EU back in 2020 at the request of Allergan, the drug’s initial manufacturer before the $63 billion AbbVie buyout that year.

The pharma company declined to offer further explanation of its reasoning behind the discontinuation, adding that there “are alternative therapies available for patients.”

Update:

Allergan Canada and/or Abbvie are considering providing continued access to Viberzi in Canada due to the number of calls that patients have been making to the Allergan Customer Care center.
