Kylie
Please help, my symptoms have been so severe its made my already depressing life a living hell that i cant find relief anywhere. Sometimes the pain is so bad even just drinking water makes me double over in pain. My doctor gave me 3 different meds that havent helped at all, and then the pharmacy turns around and charges 3x the price the very next month for something that doeant help me. I feel like i'm wasting my money on something that is a lost cause. I have a random mixture of diarhea and constipation, stabbing pains in my stomach sometimes that feel like needles, constant aches and pains and it all gets worse if i dare try to eat or drink anything... i did a ct scan and they told me everything looks fine... how can it be fine when i'm having so much pain. They're telling me that it is "just the ibs" i'd rather die than have to live with this horrible pain the rest of my life... please tell me there is some kind of affordable remedy to this because we can barely even afford groceries and i feel like i dont want to be here anymore because of the excruciating pain... i feel like i'm sh*t out of luck right now... Jeffrey Roberts
I'm truly sorry that you are having to live your life like this. I have heard from people who describe that even drinking water is overwhelming for them due to the pain. The medications available for pain and IBS-D are rather pricey. It sounds like you may have tried those already. The one thing that I would recommend trying is a low dose of a TCA central neuromodulator (formerly known as an antidepressant) called amitriptyline. This medication can dull pain over time. If it's going to work, it takes 4-6 weeks for you to feel the effects. The cost of this medication is very low. You can speak to your doctor about prescribing it. In addition, you can look into the low FODMAP diet and determine if some foods in high FODMAP are aggravating your pain and symptoms. VickiRodman
I feel your pain. I can’t seem to get relief. I have been to gastroenterologist received all the tests nothing serious. I gave up gluten helped for a while. I was just having IBS-D but now I go back and forth. Between D and C, pepto and Miralax. No way to live. Luckily this got bad late in my life. But still……. Laneyp
I have had stomach problems all my life. Either can’t stop going or can’t go. I had cdiff about 4 times over the last 5 years, no idea how it started, never took antibiotics. But I would say the last few months I have had bad stomach pains and burning bowel movements, well actually burning diarrhea. I will be like that for a couple days then not be able to go for days and then start the cycle over again. I turn down invitations and very rarely go to restaurants . I had a colonoscopy/endoscopy in February of this year, nothing significant, found a small ulcer but nothing too bad. The medication I take to stop going will block me up and maybe I will pass a couple “marbles” for a few days then start with the cramping, hard stomach and mushy poops (consistency of oatmeal) . Sometimes I even get nauseous and get the dry heaves or throw up. I don’t know what to do. I have been tested for ciliac , crohns and other things, always normal. The NP I saw in the gastro office suggested an anti depressant. I also can’t have milk or cream and salads aren’t my friend either. Anyone have the same problems, I just turned 60 and feel I am getting worse with age
Jeffrey Roberts
Laneyp, your story and description sounds like I wrote it. I feel I'm getting worse with age too. My Gastro doctor doesn't seem to have answers other than prescribing meds which stop me from going until I ease off the meds and let the cycle return again. Having Cdiff 4 times in 5 years has likely added to your issues. Most people with Cdiff develop post-infectious IBS which could also take time to heal from. Wondering if you have ever had an MRE (MRI Enterography) which would look for IBD in your small bowel? You can't see that area with a colonoscopy or gastroscopy. Having IBD ups the risk for getting Cdiff without being on an antibiotic. Age also ups the risk.
Kylie
why is it that even when i try to eat things that are supposed to be low-fodmap, completely avoiding everything thats not low-fodmap then I still get this horrible heartburn pain anyways? I feel like I'm being punished just for trying to live. Even if i try to eat the right things, I dare drink water to not dehydrate to death and then i have the unbearable pain all over again. everyone else can drink the water so it can't be something wrong with the water... I'm so tired of this. Will i ever be able to eat any of the things i used to again even if its a once in a year kind of thing? I'm so tired of all of this
Kylie
and are there even any good apps that don't scam you for money just because you're trying to survive your IBS because all the apps i've seen with food scanners just want you to pay 60 dollars a month to have any convenience with surviving your IBS. I can't take this anymore. Tired of everyone trying to take advantage of our pain and suffering

Is it possible that i can have weeks where the IBS is "not as bad" and other weeks where it's unbearable? because last week was pure torture, but this week it doesnt seem as bad. Sometimes my pain seems really inconsistent to where even just a sip of water will hurt one day and another day it wont hurt at all?? I've been trying to eat more low-FODMAP foods but some days it seems even the low-FODMAPs are hurting me no matter what!
Kylie
Ok I'm really starting to think that my stress is playing a huge role in whether or not eating or even just drinking water is hurting me. It's so horribly sensitive, I don't know what to do.

Esjie
Kylie, I am sorry you are going through all this. It sounds horrible for you, and I can understand you are losing hope and patience with it all. I'll just say, that my IBS is an on-off thing too. I am maybe much luckier because I can go through phases of being about 95% completely normal, and that can last days or weeks, or even a couple of months or so. So it makes sense if you have that kind of IBS, to get times when things aren't too bad, and then it comes back. I also hear you for sure about all this costing money. I am a pensioner in the UK, and all I have is state pension, so I can also ill afford to pay out for all sorts of medications and alternatives for IBS. I can't really even afford to buy organic veggies instead of regular ones. If I added up all the things I've tried over the last 2-3 years, I have managed to waste money on things that didn't work, and the bottles and supplemets etc are still sitting on my shelf. Or I'd buy veggies to try, they didn't suit me, and I ended up wasting them. I put some things out for wildlife, but still... Re: the water you're drinking....my idea might be off the mark, but do you drink it very cold? If so, I can imagine that causing pains in a sensitive tummy. In a flare up, our tummies can be unusually sensitive to anything they don't like! I drink bottled water only (low mineral) and drink it at room temperature. I wonder if a herbal tea like peppermint, allowed to cool a bit so it's not too hot for your stomach, might be better than slugging cold tap water? If I get griping pains, I lay down on a blanket or rug, listen to soothing music, take a bit of time out, breathe deeply and steadily and massage my belly. It helps if the sharp pains are caused by trapped wind. The wind can move and come out better . Or a warm hot water bottle on your belly, or warm bath? And yes....I also find that in a flare up, even low Fodmap foods will upset my gut! In fact there are a few low Fodmap foods that my gut cannot tolerate at all. And oddly, a few HIGH ones that are fine for me! It seems we have to find out what suits us personally, and what doesn't. I have IBS -d predominantly, but it is a little better now than it was. But if I get a flare up, I stick to very simple plain, low-residue foods, low fiber which will steady my digestion in a few days. Foods like white rice, eggs, plain cooked fish, and steamed vegetables. No peels, skins, seeds, roughage. I take a multivitamin/mineral and a B complex daily, just to make up any nutritional shortfall while eating a restricted diet. For the "C", the foods needed might be different of course. Kylie
I'm starting to get really suicidal. I already have enough crap happening to me all at once besides just the IBS, can't afford dental and so my teeth are hurting like hell. Was forced to move from a state i grew up in cause it's just too damn expensive to survive there, only to be in a place across the country thats even WORSE where we can barely even afford groceries and i hear gunshots every night even in broad daylight sometimes. And on top of that I lost everything i ever loved from home. Now I have to deal with this fucking IBS that makes me feel like I'm having MINI HEART ATTACKS IF I EVEN DARE EAT A LITTLE BIT OF GRANOLA AND IF I DON'T EAT ANYTHING THEN I FEEL LIKE SOMEONE IS STABBING ME ALL INSIDE OF MY ORGANS. I FUCKING HATE THIS WORLD!!! FUCK IBS.
Jeffrey Roberts
Kylie, I completely understand where you are coming from. I'm not equipped to help if you are feeling suicidal. Is there someone you can reach out to for mental support? You can dial '988' on your phone across the country for support. This number also works. 1-800-273-TALK (8255) https://988lifeline.org
