Jeffrey Roberts
I hear you about not wanting a bowel blockage caused by fecal impaction. How long did you stay on the linzess? People say it's a pretty good drug, but initially can give you cramps and/or diarrhea. Miralax is also pretty gentle, but it can take up 72-hours for it to work and it's good to make sure you are drinking fluids. Has your doctor suggested trying more of a stimulant like dulcolax? They come in something you take by mouth or more immediate relief by suppository. Lastly, trying a enema with warm water or even a fleet enema might bring you relief, but you should check with your doctor before trying that. I've had a fecal impaction before that required a sigmoidoscopy to clear it, so I know what you are going through with not being able to go. If you are so far constipated and nothing is relieving it then you need to go to emergency as severe constipation is serious.

Jeffrey Roberts
Dear joeyj44, I'm so sorry that you had that experience in ER and didn't find any true relief. It is good that they did not see an obstruction or that you were impacted. As an inpatient I was offered an enema to dislodge my blockage, but I wouldn't expect they can do that in the ER. Do you have a family doctor or a walk-in clinic that you can go to? It would be them that could help you decide if a glycerin suppository would be suitable for you. I don't know what to make of the lump you feel under your skin. It could be lumpy stool - but that doesn't indicate an obstruction. From personal experience, miralax can take up to 72-hours to cause a bowel movement. I understand how distressing this is. Fecal impactions and obstructions are not that common and you would be much sicker if they were present. Try not to think of the worst. joeyj44
I tried the glycerin suppositori it didn't work it kept coming out when I felt like I had to poop I'm sticking with the linzess I pooped a little yesterday but it was very hard to push out still I notice when some does come down it's very hard to push it threw feels like something is blocking it and little pieces break off and some water comes out around the stool but barley any stool comes out unless I push my stomach very hard that's why I thought something might be blocking it I do have a regular gastro and doctor I see and I spoke to the manager over the weekend she told me if I don't release any stool to come to the office and they will check me to see what's going on it just feels like something isn't right I have had so many xrays and CT and ultra sounds on my stomach and I keep getting told there's just some constipation but that's it makes no sense I thank u for your help I hope I find the answer soon this is horrible for any one to live with
Jeffrey Roberts
I completely understand what you are going through. I have been there myself and have heard from others in the same situation that ER can't do more unless there is an actual obstruction. When all else failed for me I used a saline fleet enema to force a bowel movement. This was NOT when I had a bowel obstruction, but rather another time when constipation had gone on for 8 days. A fleet enema with a bowel obstruction is NOT recommended. It describes that in the instructions. That's why I think it would be very helpful to have someone look at you. Please let us know what happens when you go to the office.
