DJD
Hello. I believe this is a good topic that is not discussed enough… I suffer from all 3. I actually wake up anxious and depressed many days just hoping i will start the day with a good bowel movement. Sometimes i think i sabotage myself right when i get to the toilet. And here is the kicker. Did an anxiety/depression condition contribute to causing IBS or has living with IBS 3 plus years caused my anxiety/depression. Maybe both! i believe mental health and IBS links should be studied more, at the least, talked about more.
DJD
I made a typo. 30 plus years. Not 3. if only….😬
AAS
Yes, it is not discussed enough and should really be. I personally have all 3 myself and I do believe that there is a link. It is a cycle really, your body is not feeling well digestively and that is why you do not feel well mentally and vise versa.

FYI, there is an excellent group that is focusing on mental health and IBS at the Rome Foundation, https://theromefoundation.org/rome-gastropsych/

It’s an endless circle. We just need to find something that works everyday! I try to do as much as I can to help out but that’s not always enough I need to hear what others have to say. Thx. Tall52
Here are a few of my suggestions for dealing with anxiety. Ziziphus seed decoction or alcoholic tincture. This is considered to be the strongest sedative in the Chinese pharmacopoeia other than opium. Tryptophan in my experience is a very effective anti-anxiety agent. I have used 1/4 to 3/4 teaspoons at a time in the past. I have used 300mg of 5HTP with good effect in the past. Some brands don't seem to work so I would suggest the Swanson Ultra product. Two pranayamas, breathing exercises I would suggest giving a try are abdominal breathing and alternate nostril breathing. One last suggestion for now is to take the problem of anxiety seriously so hopefully it doesn't get out of hand. Hopefully the last statement doesn't make you anxious about being anxious.
