bransun62
Hello, I have a question. Everytime I eat I feel like I have trapped gas, and a fullness feeling on my left side abdomen, sometimes goes to my right side upper abdomen under rib cage. I have not noticed weight loss, and it has come on rather quickly around new years after having an upset stomach. My bowel movements have been normal to not normal. Though, I get more gas than stool and I feel like I have incomplete bowel movements. Sometimes they are loose, sometimes I am constipated. Sometimes I feel this fullness feeling in my right side abdomen. I do also get a “tingly” feeling on my left side after eating. Most of the time I notice this after eating. This does not hurt, and I have not noticed a lack in appetite, or energy. I have not noticed visible blood in my stool either. Is this colon cancer? I am scared I am a healthy 29 year old white male. Thanks. I did get a complete blood count blood test and all came back within normal range Edited February 8 by bransun62
Jeffrey Roberts
Hello, Your symptoms are rather curious, but I don't think you have to worry about colon cancer. I think you would have other indications of something as serious as cancer. You described a lot of gas and that could be what you are feeling on your left and right side. You might consider speaking to your doctor about doing a stool culture and perhaps ova and parasite stool test to rule out an infection. It's unlikely to be an infection because you said your blood tests were normal, but still worth considering. The diagnosis of IBS is usually made after 3 months of symptoms so it's a little early to also make that diagnosis. I hope whatever it is passes quickly and you feel more normal again. Esjie
You will need some tests to help find out if there is anything else going on, but I have to tell you that I was diagnosed with IBS, nothing worse (as if IBS isn't bad enough!) and I get something similar at times. Mine does come and go, and usually starts up with some discomfort about 5-6 hrs after dinner in the evening. But I can go for long periods with no discomfort at all. My tests were all normal too, including blood tests. I only pass a little bit of gas, and if I do it either has no smell to it at all, or only the mildest (a bit like chewed hay) so I often wonder if my colon is just over sensitive to any gas that is naturally produced in there? I think we often can have over sensitive guts that respond a bit more dramatically to natural functions going on? (brain/gut feedback loop.) Anxiety makes it worse. and in a catch-22 situation, an uneasy gut can CAUSE anxiety like state. It works both ways sometimes. Get some basic stool tests run and see. Sometimes there's an easy fix, like a good probiotic. You never know. But it would be good to set your mind at rest. Good luck.

Thanks. I did get a complete blood count blood test and all came back within normal range I totally get your fear. But now comes the researching and trying different ideas. Journal what you’re feeling that day or what’s happening in your life. Check out FODMAP diet. Are you allergic to any foods because if you are they can make your gut very unhappy. Journal your fear than go out with friends and have a good time. I just thought of something. I was getting lots of trapped gas for a long time. Then I found out what foods I am allergic to. Learned to eat slowly cause I thought that added to my gas. I began eating less food so I didn’t have to overwork my digestion. Keep coming back here. I find it very helpful talking to others. Good luck.
