Saphire7
Hi Regina, What's helpful is writing down everything one eats each day. Then the next noting how is your elimination. I've been lately eating two eggs for breakfast. Then I realized I'm eating too much fat at one meal. (I have problems w/ the pancreas). So I'm trying just two egg whites without the yolk. Then if I go to a place where food is served, if it's not FODMAP foods, or say it's rice with oil, I'm starting to bring my own food. I do better with potatoes, sweet potatoes, yuca, apio (celery root). Foods that have more fiber. White rice which they serve in most places (I live in Puerto Rico) doesn't have fiber so it clogs my system. Hope you have found the culprit to your digestive ills. take good care! Saphire7
I also found stomach massage before a meal to be helpful. Also eating leisurely, not inhaling the food while watching the news at the same time. There's something to be said for how the emotions affect our digestion. Namaste. I cut them out and luckily knock on wood, I have been in remission for about 3 or 4 monhts. I also think the psyllium husk I am taking has helped. Saphire7
That's great! Can you mention what foods you cut out? I also make it a point to take psyllium in the AM and in the PM. take good care!
Regina S.
Well I spoke too soon, unfortunately. Out of nowhere it came back last week. The only thing I cut out was items with a lot of sorbital which were prune juice ( I used to take it to go to the bathroom) and a couple of sugar free items. Thats it, and I was in a remission for like 5 months.. maybe its not all food related, maybe stress? I will never figure this out. But I am starting to take the bentyl again, hopefully it helps me. I dont recall in the past it really did much but I going to give it a shot. Do you take any medications?
Saphire7
Regina, I only take psyllium 2x day for regularity. It works really well to empty the bowels. I like it because it's gentle. I never tried any medications. Good luck!
Saphire7
I decided to eat 2 eggs for breakfast and only 1 egg yolk. But now I realize I don't digest fats well. So today I decided to only eat the egg whites and see how I feel tomorrow morning. I realize it's best to cook almost all my own food. When I eat out the cooks add oil to most of the foods which doesn't digest well. So it's a discipline. I make it a priority to plan all my meals every day. Nearly every time I eat somewhere else the food doesn't digest very well. hope you're feeling better whoever's reading this right now. Regina S.
Hi, I guess if you can identify the things that are causing it that may help you. I cut out 2 things and I was in remission for like 5 monhts.. not stomach problems whatsoever. So I thought it was those 2 things.. but now it came back. Fine on weekends, durring the week it is there. I can only assume it is stress related. May I ask you, or anyone, what are the stomach symptoms you fee? I am wondering if I am diagnosed incorrectly. Big sigh..
Rumble
Just wanna say thank you to all who took the time to post here. I cant believe what Im going through is similar to all of you. Makes me feel things are normal when I feel like its not. Im a 48yr old healthy active male who doesnt eat much going through IBS past 5yrs. Each time it happens I feel like its 2 steps backwards. I'm coming to the conclusion its not about a cure and more about lifestyle change?
Regina S.
Hi Ralph, you are definately not alone. I have been dealing all my life.. dozens of medications, grappling at the cause. There really is no cure. I suppose it is a lifestyle change. I think it just comes and goes throughout life. I certainly understand the 2 step backwards.. just when you think you nailed it, its back.. big sigh. Well hope we can all get to the bottom of this one day. Saphire7
Regina, If I eat say 3 pieces of whole wheat bread I feel pain in my intestines. too much fiber. I realize if I eat too much say squash, beets and brocolli, for e.g., my stomach expresses it's displeasure to me. It's as if it's saying, don't stuff so many vegetables inside me all at once. I should eat about 1/4 cup of each type of cooked veggie. If I eat red meat, later I feel a pain on my lower right side, as if it's clogging my system. So I rarely eat red meat. I try to bring a package of tuna if I'm eating in a public place in case there's nothing I can eat. Tuna goes down easier than red meat or pork. if you have time, at night, write down all you ate during the day, and note how it affected your stomach. let me know... Regina S.
HI, it sounds like you have seem to figure out what is affecting you which is good. I tried the journal thing but like the the title .. no rhyme or reason. I can eat something and feel sick, then eat the same thing next week and I have a stomach ache. I have seem to isolate the few things that irritate me which helped, but the 2nd part of the equation is the stress aggrivation. I think then my brain kicks and causes this stomach disturbance so I have figured out that it is a 2 fold situation. It is not easy, I have been taking bentyl to help the stomach cramps but I think it is making me constipated.
