Stomach Cramps

Recommended Posts

From time to time I have bouts of Stomach Cramps, lasts about a week and very painful.
I have had tests and a scan but nothing shows up and GP thinks that it is IBS, I have no other symptoms, maybe caused by anxiety, other wise I am fine  for an 82 year old.
Any suggestions regarding help for this pain.

Hi Devon Roy. I feel for you. I’m almost 69 and I’ve noticed my body can’t handle what it use to. So I journal, try and figure out what’s happening in my life that’s stressful, tweek my diet. And I have less expectations. Cry sometimes. But mostly I really pay attention to my life. Understand my way of thinking. I find sometimes I’m judging myself mercilessly. And that I find does more harm than good for me. Then I’m just plain sad. Then I move into the next moment hoping for relief even if just a day. Good luck. I have an 86 year old friend who just started having intestinal trouble. Never once had this problem in their life. But they recently went through some terrible terrible stress.

Thanks for your reply and like wise I find it difficult to find reasons for my anxiety which in some ways only makes things worse, not really sure if this is the reason for the stomach cramps, I suppose the not knowing the reason for the pain does not help.

Take care.

Devonroy, I am sorry you're getting bad pains that carry on for a week at a time. Trapped wind can be really very painful. Do you think it might be that? When does it hurt most? After eating, hours after eating, when hungry, when tired....etc?
I don't think Simethicone is available in the UK, but that can be helpful for dispersing trapped wind.  But in the UK there's Rennie Deflatine (I don't know what that's like though as I haven't tried it.)There are other things that can help, such as food grade peppermint oil, a couple of drops in a small teacup of boiling water, sip when it isn't too hot to sip at it.

Avoiding cruciferous vegetables, too much fruit, and with some people even root vegetables can sometimes help. It depends on your own sensitivities. For instance I can happily eat broccoli, but that's unusual as it can cause wind and IBS symptoms. We all have something which doesn't quite suit us and then again we're all so different.

Keeping regular mealtimes helps too. If I go over my dinnertime by more than half an hour it can give me crampy wind later. This is tricky sometimes when life is busy I know.

I got the most awful wind pains last night it felt like rocks were being thrown at me. I discovered that when I lie down completely flat on the floor, not even a pillow, and relax my whole body and stay there ten minutes or so, when I get up again the pains have gone

It would be great if your tummy pain was down to trapped wind, and you could do things to help it.
