ibsDfemale
Hi, I have constant bloating and Diarrhea. I was told possible IBS-D. It is so uncomfortable to sit sometimes. I wake up bloated and Goto sleep bloated. Everything I eat goes straight through me. If I'm stressed, it happens. Some days its watery, other days its "fluffy-pudding" consistency with some yellowish liquid almost like too much bile acid? (sorry for the TMI) I am having a colonoscopy/endoscopy in two days. I am hoping to find out more and get some relief and praying its nothing serious. Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated
Jeffrey Roberts
I'm sorry to read what you have to deal with. Does the bloating give you pain? Does the diarrhea eventually offer some relief? Do you have a gallbladder? There is a specific test for bile acid diarrhea (BAD) called a SeHCAT test. It's pretty well the only way to truly diagnose BAD. I hope the endoscopy will be helpful to rule out some things.
ibsDfemale
No. I don’t have pain. I just feel like I always have loose stools or very soft and always after I eat. I just always feel bloated. Yea I still have my gallbladder. The only surgery I had was totally hysterectomy. Where do they do that test ? Is it bloodwork
Jeffrey Roberts
The SeHCAT test would likely have to be done in a hospital setting. It's more involved than bloodwork. I actually don't know anyone who has done it because the treatment is so simple that usually if you respond to the treatment then you might not need the test. The treatment is to use cholestyramine which is a powder you mix with liquid and drink. The powder (resin) binds to the bile and reduces the diarrhea. There are also tablets that some people use instead of the powder. I hope that is what might be going on. The scope is good to make sure nothing else is happening. IBS-D has an abdominal pain component. It's not just diarrhea.
ibsDfemale
I don’t really have pain. Just loose stools. Especially after eating. I feel bloated after I eat too. Certain foods or worse like dairy or spicy.
Jeffrey Roberts
Have you ever met with a dietitian or been tested by your doctor for lactose, fructose or gluten intolerance or some other malabsorption? One other thing to test for is CSID - https://rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/disaccharide-intolerance-i/
ibsDfemale
had colonoscopy this am. Colon was fine. No polyps. Has endoscopy, had some bacteria and testing for H-pylori and celiac
Jeffrey Roberts
Thank goodness your colon was fine. Good to test for those conditions. Hope they eventually get to the bottom of this. Rest up. 😴
ibsDfemale
Thank you. I’m hoping it’s just the celiac that’s causing my problems , so I can change my diet I’m assuming to gluten free
Jeffrey Roberts
Celiac has some other symptoms than only diarrhea, but it is possible. I would actually lean towards checking for or treating bile acid diarrhea or CSID. There is also something called Functional Diarrhea which does not have a pain component. You basically treat that as if it is IBS-D.
ibsDfemale
Thank you. They also testing for H/pylori

ibsDfemale
Apparently I have gastritis. Report came back DUODENAL BULB, BIOPSIES: - PYLORIC METAPLASIA. - NO HELICOBACTER SEEN. GASTRIC BODY, BIOPSY: - MILD CHRONIC GASTRITIS
Jeffrey Roberts
That was incredibly fast for the results. It does seem like you have inflammation in your stomach and the beginning of your small intestine, but it may or may not explain your diarrhea. Do you take many NSAID medications like aleve, motrin or advil? aspirin?
ibsDfemale
No. I don’t take any of that. I do however take a beta blocker daily
Jeffrey Roberts
A beta blocker wouldn't cause inflammation. I'll be curious to see what your doctor thinks of this.
