Older Woman, newly diagnosed

I've had stomach issues my entire life, but up until recently, I managed well.  For close to a month now, I've had watery or loose movements, primarily in the earlier part of the day. I landed in the ER last week with pain and although the PA said it could be Crones, it wasn't. Numerous tests were done including an abdominal catscan, labs, urine....... Everything was normal. After having the scan with contrast, the urgency hit and spent the next 20 minutes in the bathroom. Has anyone been affected by contrast? Anyway, I'm done googling and just want relief. I did stool samples last week and should get results soon. Anyway, to sum it all up, I'm an older woman in my sixties, upper sixties and complete miserable. I'm so happy to be here🙏

Someone I know has begun the same thing you have. My friend is eating bland foods and she says it’s helping. Her pain is coming from hemorrhoids. But prior to this new problem for about five years she was going thru extreme stress. Listen to what your body says. Like if you eat something and you have gas afterwards, then you might have trouble eating that food. I’ll start with that.

Misery loves company and unfortunately for us we have a lot of company, they find cure’s for a lot of diseases but seems like they aren’t too interested in IBS-D,maybe because no one really likes to talk about bowel problems,I don’t know,it’s just hard living with it.

Yup.  When I first was dealing with IBS, I was even freaked to go to my gastroenterologist. But I’ve had a lot of time go by to hardly be bothered with anything IBS related. it is a tough subject.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi! I actually had the same issue with contrast after an abdominal CT on Friday, but I have such issues with IBS-D that I thought it was just my normal issues.  I had been doing a bit better with my diarrhea though and this was immediately after I got home from the scan

,so I googled and that is listed as a reaction to the contrast. They just failed to tell me at the hospital! I am a 66-year-old female with pretty long history of IBS-D and stomach pain they say is like gastritis/combo. And have another diagnosis (a name which I always forget) that ends in Phils, for which I was recently been put on a series of 3 drugs that have helped me a great deal. One was a 42-day run of a drug used to treat Crohn's patients, a steroid, I believe. It really, really helped me. Budesonide is the name.
