Diarrhea, simultaneous vomiting, sweating, shaking

I've lived with IBS for as long as I can remember.  Recently I've been having episodes of liquid diarrhea that brings on a vomit response accompanied by dripping sweat and shaking throughout my body.  It is extremely rough and I would like to not go through that again.  My biggest symptom of IBS is lack of motility.  I just don't have an urge to evacuate my bowels even though they are full and rumbling.  I use glycerin suppositories to create an urge and void my bowels.  My doctor didn't seem concerned about daily usage of suppositories and suggested I try Citrucel.  That just gave me more gas and an even more uncomfortable sensation of bloating.  I'm wondering if anyone else has the vomiting and sweating while defecating?

I don't know what to say.  It is the story of my life.  No one seems to believe me when I tell them that I have diarrhea that doesn't just come on out.  Would someone at least say hi to me.  :(

Hello jeanfisher,

I'm sorry, I thought I had replied. Your situation sounds rather miserable.

Liquid diarrhea with vomiting and perspiring sounds like it really should be investigated. I just don't know enough about it; however, to me it seems like it could be overflow diarrhea from constipation along with a vagal nerve response. The vagal response is a series of unpleasant symptoms that occur when the vagus nerve is stimulated. Often, this response is triggered by certain things like stress, pain, and fear. Symptoms of the vagal response include dizziness, nausea, ringing ears, and sweating. In some cases, it can make you pass out. If this is what I have a hunch is happening, I have heard of many people having this response. It's not you, there is something going on causing this.

I don't know what kind of doctor you are referring to; however, a caring gastroenterologist might suggest a bowel movement study to see what is going on. Do you think you can get referred to someone?

Thanks so much for your reply.  Yes, I do think it is a vagal nerve response.  My health plan is referral based and the gastroenterologist I get seems to be limited to just this one practice.  I will take your suggestion to my primary care physician and see where we can go from here.

What are your thoughts about chiropractic and IBS?  This vagus nerve response makes me wonder if nerves are being pinched.

I have never met a chiropractor at a medical conference and am not clear what their training might be in managing IBS. I believe it is more involved than correcting a pinched nerve.
