Sick of IBS -D

Recommended Posts

I have had stomach problems for a while now, it started as nervous tummy where i would have to sprint to the bathroom whenever i was nervous, now i get nervous about being nervous so im forever in the bathroom. I was diagnosed officially with IBS after ruling out celiac etc, im just so miserable. Im terrified to eat in fear of needing the bathroom so restaurants are a no go for me now. I was put on mebeverine 135mg and loperamide 2mg which do help, i have them most days to keep my bowel movements firmer and calmer for me, however sometimes my body just ignores this and goes crazy regardless. Im vegetarian and ive tried to cut out dairy as this wasnt helping, some days im ok but then others im in agony sitting in the bathroom for hours, ive cried a lot over this!

im 26 and just want to go out and be social, but my body just doesnt want to. Any advice would be appreciated

Hi OConnorJO,

I just saw your post and I can understand your problem as I also suffered the same symptoms.  I almost suffered for 20 years and it impacted my social life as well as career. You are just 26 years and lot of things to achieve in your life. Fortunately one of the home remedy worked for me. I am curious whether it can cure for others as well. If it works for you we can share this to all the patients as well. Recently I travelled on a 20 hours flight without any bowl issue and also going to office without any anxiety. It is simple and you can make yourself. It consists of regular spices and I don't  think there is any side effects unless you are allergic to spices.  I am not  sure about the rules of the forum. If it permit I would like to connect with you and  try this solution.

If anyone else from US is experiencing the similar problems as experienced by O'Conner's, please let me know.  I am curious to know whether the home remedy that fixed my problem can help others or not.

I completely understand how you are feeling. When I was even younger than you are now I was very nervous about going to school, starting a job, really going anywhere. I would plan out my route with safe places to use a bathroom if I needed one. It's no way to live.

Have you ever spoken to your doctor about being referred for therapy? Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has been approved as a treatment for IBS in the US. There is evidence that it can help control the thoughts that build up inside of you that make you paralyzed with fear and manage the urges to have a bowel movement. Certainly mebverine will hope turn down the volume on the urges. Loperamide is really just masking the problem and probably makes you constipated. I know that is a welcome relief, but you never know when the loperamide might wear off.

Telling you what I know now, is that working on your anxiety and nervousness will ultimately help your gut.
