I FOUND SOMETHING THAT HELPS IBS-D

I know everyone is different but I have found something that works for me. I was prescribed Claritin D 12 hour DUEL allergy medicine. The duel medicine part is important, because there are several that are just the one med and dont get the 24 hour one.  I was afraid to take it as I dont like to add anything to the mix as it always makes my IBS worse. Ive tried everything, the presc meds for IBS-D caused severe depression and dont work.  No matter what I eat, Im sick.  The sinus issue got worse so I decided to try it for the sinus issue.  After 18 years of severe diarrhea and gas pain, sick 6-7 days per week and it stopped my IBS day one.  I googled it because usually any kind of cold or cough OTC meds make me worse and I cant take them. GOOGLED: IBS studies allergy medicine and several things came up that they are researching that this helps.  Ive been using the allergy meds now about 8 months and Ive never felt better!!  The medicine is a control, substance because people use it to make meth, but you can get 1 box per month w/o a prescription or you can get a script from the doctor.  I hope this will work for some of you, its worth a try. Let me know if you have any questions

I would also like to add that it does cause a little sleep disturbance for me, but that stops after you have been taking it for a while, take it in the morning

Hey!

Do you think this could work for IBS-M? Is it to do with limiting allergies?

Thanks!

I just dont know but you could ask your doctor. Taking the meds, for me, takes away all IBS-D, almost to a constipation level so Im not sure if it would help with the mixed or not.  All I do know is I have not felt this good in years

Hello,

Quite a few patients have been using Benadryl to manage their IBS-D for many years. Claritin, like benadryl are antihistamines. There is some research which have been related to histamine as a cause for some people with IBS. Taking an antihistamine might be why it is helping or just that antihistamines can cause you to be more constipated. It's definitely an interesting topic of discussion.

Personally, benadryl gives me a looser stool. Claritin seems to be no better.
