Been diagnosed with ibs-c/cic and have tried linzess, amitiza and trulance all of which worked for a while but eventually stopped fully improving my situation

today my gastro started me on ibsrela and im hoping for better results.

question x does ibsrela make bowel,movements easier and more numerous?

Hi,

Ibsrela works differently than the others although it does have the same result, ie: to relieve constipation. I believe all the medications have the same end goal to give you a spontaneous bowel movement and to normalize your bowel movements. That is to make them happen at a more usual pace.

Ibsrela reduces sodium absorption and increases the excretion of sodium and fluid in stool whereas all the others stimulate secretion of chloride and bicarbonate and water into the intestine to aid constipation.

I think everyone responds differently to each of them. We are hearing good things about Ibsrela especially when all the others have failed to continue to work.

Jeffrey - thanks for the response. With the other three meds I’d often have to resort to magnesium citrate or ducolax or senna if I didn’t have a BM for three days and then hope the med I was using would take over. I’m hoping to get more regular with ibsrela. Again thanks for the info

Onky have taken 2 pills so far. No BM yet 

Took second pill. Easy BM after breakfast thus morning. No side effects except gurgling - is gurgling in stomach a good thing bad thing or a nothing?

That's very encouraging that you had a BM with the 2nd pill.

Gurgling to me means a looser stool, but everyone has a different meaning for it.

Jeff - I forgot tgat before I started ibsrela I took some ducolax which is what triggered the BM I think, 

in your experience when does the ibsrela start to impact BMs? I realize everyone is different but just wondering how long to wait

I don't have any personal experience using Ibsrela.

According to their brochure it says that most people experience relief from constipation within the first week.

Jeff - curious to ask. I’ve only taken Ibsrela like three days so far and it seems I can’t have a Bm without adding a dose of otc laxatives like ducolax or sennakot. Is this unusual or just the switchover time from amitiza?

I understand your worry that you might be back to where you started. All I know is what the Ibsrela brochure says, "most people experience relief from constipation within the first week."

Have you followed up with the doctor that prescribed it and ask what their experience has been?
