About Us

IBS Patient Support GroupThe IBS Patient Support Group was established by Jeffrey Roberts MSEd, BSc who was the founder of the first internet Irritable Bowel Syndrome patient community website in 1995. The IBS Patient Support Group community was launched in 2016 as a public education advocacy community for sufferers. Jeffrey believes in evidenced-based medicine and non-anecdotal treatment options for patients.

IBS Patient Support Group is a privately held not-for-profit community self funded by Jeffrey Roberts and is supplemented by limited advertisement banners and affiliate links. Advertisement is distinguished by the word “Advertisement”. Some funding to develop content is provided in the form of an unrestricted educational grant and content which was written under a grant, is labeled as such. The IBS Patient Support Group’s search engine uses a Google product that displays “Ads by Google” were applicable in search results.

Unless otherwise noted, the information presented on the IBSpatient website (not including the forums) is written and edited by Jeffrey Roberts, who is an authority on the subject following countless hours of research.

About Jeffrey Roberts MSEd, BSc

IBS sufferer for 25+ years and Founder and creator of the IBS Patient Support Group (ibspatient.org) and original Founder of the IBS Self Help and Support Group (ibsgroup.org). Jeffrey is the Founder of World IBS Day and co-Founder of TuesdayNightIBS. He has testified to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) several times on behalf of IBS patients. His testimony to the FDA Advisory Committee about Lotronex was instrumental in returning the drug to the market in 2002 for diarrhea predominant IBS sufferers. He also provided testimony to the FDA in 2004 in support of Zelnorm for the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation and constipation predominant IBS and for the re-introduction of Zelnorm for IBS with constipation in 2018. Jeffrey provided testimony to the FDA in support of Prulcalopride for chronic idiopathic constipation in 2018. Read FDA testimonies here.

Jeffrey is active in the media and press and has received award recognition for his work. Jeffrey was awarded in 2019 by Digestive Disease Week (DDW), the annual scientific and medical research conference, to receive the inaugural Patient Influencer Travel Award. He was also a nominee in 2020, 2021 and 2022 for the Healio Gastro Disruptive Innovators Award. In 2021, Jeffrey was added to the list of Digital Opinion Leaders in Irritable Bowel Syndrome. He has appeared on the Discovery Channel, National Public Radio and in Canadian Living Magazine, Today’s Dietitian, the FDA Consumer Magazine and has been quoted by CBS Evening News, Washington Post, USA Today, United Press International (UPI), Reuters, Associated Press, New York Times, Globe and Mail, and CBC Online.

He has a Masters of Science in Education (MSEd) degree from Medaille College, Buffalo, New York. Jeffrey’s thesis was entitled Awareness of Childhood Health Issues On Educational Outcome. He also holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree from the University of Toronto and co-authored and published a book related to the IBS Self Help and Support Group, entitled IBS Chat: Real Life Stories and Solutions.
